Halloween is celebrated on the night of October 31st to November 1st. And although he has obviously mystical roots, today everything is much simpler. This is a holiday of mischief, buffoonery and ... childhood. After all, never again do people eat so many sweets and make so many incredibly beautiful and very sweet desserts, do not extort candy from neighbors and don creepy costumes to drive away death. Sweets are the guides to childhood. Try carving pumpkins and cook something traditional - it's delicious! And if you have never tried it before, it is also informative.

A bit of history

When the British began to populate America in the 1600s, they brought the traditions of Halloween with them. Less popular than it is now, Halloween traditions grew in the New World, but were not popular until the early 20th century, when the modern version of the holiday emerged.

Culinary traditions have survived to this day. And them main component- sweets. Candies, sweet corn, pumpkins, apples - that's what Americans eat on Halloween. Of course, they are complemented by modern dishes like witch's finger cookies, cupcakes with cute bats and millions of versions of bloody drinks. But we'll only focus on the traditional table.

Sweet bread Barmbrek

Barmbrek - butter barley bread with raisins and dried apricots. It is the centerpiece of the Irish version of Halloween. It is also called "The Bread of All Saints" and is used for the game of divination. A stick, a silver coin, a ring, a piece of cloth are put into one or several loaves. Each thing symbolizes something - from misery and poverty to wealth and marriage (marriage) next year.

Caramel apples

One of the most popular desserts- two types: soft caramel and sugar hard caramel. Try both at once!

Use Fuji and Granny Smith: hard, crunchy and sour. They go well with sweet caramel and keep their shape at high temperatures.

Apples in sugar caramel(Candy apples) appeared more than a hundred years ago by pure chance. One American pastry chef, William Kolb, was looking for ways to sell more red cinnamon candy in 1908. And he figured out that you can dip apples in it, and then sell them on a stick. It's bright, beautiful and very fabulous. Within a couple of years, apples in a red glossy crust became the number one autumn sweetness, especially on Halloween.

How to cook such caramel apples can be viewed in the recipe for Mozart Cake. Pierre Herme. Add some red or black to the caramel food coloring and your apples will become an "awful beautiful" decoration of the festive Halloween table.

Apples in soft caramel (Caramel/ Toffy apples). Wrapped in what we used to call "toffee", they appeared much later. In the 1950s, Kraft Foods employee Dan Walker came up with them. Like the candy version, this one came up with experiments with candy for Halloween sales. He just melted soft caramel and dipped apples in it - that's the whole story.

Bonfire toffee (hardened caramel)

Such caramel is prepared on the basis of molasses - dark syrup. It is a hard, bitter caramel, strongly associated with Halloween and bonfire nights in the UK. It is more likely to be referred to as lollipops than soft gummies.

Soul cake small round biscuits very popular in Britain. It is baked on Halloween to give to children and the poor in exchange for a promise to pray for the dead. Today, this tradition is not as common as “sweets in exchange for desire,” but it is well known in Portugal and northeastern England.

Cookies are usually made from shortcrust pastry, add cinnamon, ginger, raisins. Before baking, a cross is drawn on the cookies. It is traditionally served with a glass of wine.

I wish you happy Halloween!

I wish you crazy night!

Let’s put ours costumes: monster, queen ...

Let’s go and joy tonight!

Good day, readers of the Rum Diary magazine! Costume parties and theme parties require special preparation, and this also applies to our theme: drinks and snacks. The time of Halloween is approaching - a holiday that for some reason has become very popular in our latitudes. The question arises: what cocktails and snacks for Halloween to prepare, how to decorate them, how to create a "spooky" atmosphere with their help?

In this article, we will try to collect as many Halloween snacks as possible with pumpkins, spiders, bones and other "nightmares". It has been written about cocktails for the "bourgeois" holiday. Since we are talking specifically about snacks, there will be a minimum of cookies and muffins here.

Halloween Snack Recipes

Snake

If you are going to have a party in the style of "beer and hot dogs", it will perfectly fit into the concept of a hoddog in the form of a snake. Of course, finding a curved bun is problematic, so the easiest way is to bake it yourself (you can buy the dough or make it yourself). The filling as usual to your liking, top you can decorate with multi-colored bell pepper, cut into strips. We make the eyes from green olives, drop a drop of ketchup inside the olives, fix with toothpicks. In front, we make the mouth of the snake and stick a long forked tongue out of bell pepper... By the way, you can make blanks for such sandwiches in advance, and just preheat them in the oven before the party and then immediately decorate.

Broom for the witch

A simple broom-shaped Halloween snack:

  • Salty sticks (can be bought at almost any kiosk);
  • Hard cheese or cheese for sandwiches (square);
  • Green onions

If we take an ordinary hard cheese (you need a plastic one that will not crumble), then first you need to cut it into thin squares, and then make cuts on one side, without cutting to the end. We wind it on a stick, we tie it green onions!

By the way, you can make a simplified version - break the dark salted sticks into small pieces and tie them with green onions to sticks of a lighter tone. Done 😉

Spiders

Egg cold snacks are a classic, and if you decorate them in a certain way, you get great snack for Halloween! Boil the eggs, cut them into two, and remove the yolk. After that, mix the yolk with any other ingredients you want: mayonnaise, cheese, garlic, sauce, fish, meat, etc. Fill the halves of the eggs with the resulting mass and decorate with olive spiders on top.

Pizza "Mummy" on buns "

Many who have cooked Halloween dishes are aware that the main thing is to decorate correctly. It is practically unimportant from which ingredients the appetizer will be prepared, more important is to give it a “festive” look. For example, a properly decorated pizza can become a great snack to beer and will help to create an entourage.

You can decorate as a large pizza (ingredients at your discretion) or small buns that are pre-cut in half. From below tomato paste, at the level of the "eyes" - circles of black olives with a "pupil" of bell pepper, green beans or green olives, on top - cheese, laid out in stripes on the entire surface, except for the "eyes". You can prepare in advance, put in the oven or microwave before serving.

You can also make mummy toasts, mummy sausages, etc. A few ideas in photos:

Ripe "pumpkin" from cheese

Great snack with beer and different cocktails for halloween. You can serve cheese "pumpkin" with bread, chips, nachos, toasts, and salty cookies which I will write about below. Additionally - delicate white sauces if desired.

So, we take 100 grams of soft goat cheese, packaging cream cheese(Philadelphia or cheaper equivalent), 250 grams of cheddar (or other spicy cheese), a little chopped green onions, garlic powder, oregano and grind all this in a blender until smooth.

We give the resulting mass the shape of a ball and make hollows, to resemble a pumpkin. The tail can be made from straw, a piece of pretzel, or whatever is close at hand, and the leaf can be made from a sprig of parsley.

Cheese balls-pumpkins

Another delicious cheese snack with a "pumpkin" theme - small pumpkins with paprika. They will need a glass of grated cheddar, a package of cream cheese, garlic powder, black pepper, roasted red pepper (a few tablespoons). We mix these ingredients and cool for 2 hours, after which we roll balls from the resulting mass, roll them in paprika, make cuts to resemble a pumpkin. The appetizer is laid out on crackers, we use a sprig of green onions as a tail.

Witch's Fingers Cookies

Interestingly, almost the main thing in Halloween snacks is their form, but you can do it at your discretion with the content. Cookies can be sweet or savory, spiced (and served with sauces), or spiced (and served with jam, preferably red 😉).

Sweet Cookie Recipe:

Beat 150 grams of butter with 200 grams of sugar and vanilla. Beat for about five minutes, then add the egg. Add salt, baking powder (1 tsp) and flour (about 350 grams). Knead the dough, which should be firm enough and not too sticky. We put the dough in the refrigerator for half an hour.

Then we form long finger-shaped blanks from small pieces of dough, make “folds” on the “phalanges” with a knife or other convenient object, grease with melted chocolate and press the “nail” - almonds, peanuts or another nut-like nut. Bake for 20-25 minutes at 180 degrees.

Cookies "Bones"

If you don't want to bother with the dough, then you can buy ready-made in the store yeast dough and make cookies of different thematic shapes out of it. Divide the dough into small pieces, form bones from them, sprinkle with rosemary and large sea salt... If you want to make sweets, then powdered sugar comes in handy, which can be sprinkled on the "bones" after baking (by the way, you need to bake before golden crust, minutes 10-15). The seeds can be lightly sprinkled with cheese.

Boil eggs, cool, peel and cut in half. We take out the yolk, knead it with a fork along with mayonnaise, pepper and salt. Mix with onions. We fill the egg whites.

Cut each olive berry in half. We spread one half on each egg - this is the "body" of the spider, the second is cut into strips, which we lay around the "body", imitating the paws. Done, you can get scared!

Sausage in dough or "Invasion of the mummies"

  • 1 pack of puff pastry (450 g);
  • 10-15 sausages;

After the specified time, remove the pumpkin from the baking sheet, put it in a bowl. Pour oil evenly, salt, add pepper, squeeze out the garlic, do not forget about the seeds, mix everything. Spread it again in an even layer on a baking sheet and return it to the oven, increasing the temperature to 210 degrees. 15-20 minutes is enough - you can serve. Delicious both warm and cold.

Vampire's Fingers Shortbread Cookies

It is very doubtful that such cookies induce appetite, but it is quite obvious that they provoke certain negative emotions. However, it should be so if you invited guests to Halloween!

We give the "sausages" the shape of a finger, designate the phalanges with the back of the knife. Place on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.

Peeled halves almonds dip in the remaining yolk, sink at the end of the "finger", imitating a nail.

We bake at 180 degrees for 20 minutes.
The cooled biscuits can be lightly poured with jam or jam - the streaks of blood on the vampire's fingers look very, very picturesque. Such is the recipe for Halloween.

Another Halloween dish - Chocolate mousse with worms

Who will refuse a portion chocolate dessert? Add a couple of nasty worms to the bowl or glass - and the treat in Halloween format is ready!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 3 chicken eggs;
  • 300 g of chocolate;
  • 400 ml heavy cream(fat content - at least 33%);

Melt the chocolate in a water bath, remove from heat and leave to cool.
At this time, beat eggs with icing sugar- the mass should turn white and increase in volume.
Whip the cream until a firm foam.
Combine the cream with the egg mass, then add chocolate in small portions and mix gently.
Pour the mousse into bowls and refrigerate for at least 3 hours.
When serving, sprinkle the surface of the mousse with cocoa powder (imitation of the earth), stick in a few worms.

If you are worried and do not eat raw chicken eggs, replace them with an equal weight of quail eggs.

Done, you can feast on vile worms! How do you like this Halloween dish?

Scary Party Queen - Sweet Stuffed Pumpkin

10 Halloween Table and Room Decorating Ideas

1. In the center of the table, be sure to place the pumpkin with the “hair” -fruits: put an assortment of apples, pears, grapes, oranges, bananas on the barbecue sticks and stick them into the “head”. Such a treat will perfectly decorate the holiday, and, in addition, it will serve as an unusual plate for serving fruit. Be sure this pumpkin will be shaved bald in the first minutes.

2. Do not forget to "decorate" napkins and towels for guests with bloody handprints - for this purpose, textile paints are quite suitable. Of course, you have to tinker a little, but the effect is worth it!

3. The web is simply obliged to entangle your entire apartment, otherwise Halloween will not take place. Don't forget about the toilet, glasses, doorways, chairs, plates.

4. Candles - by all means! Old, flowing, crooked, dark, broken - this is what you need to celebrate Halloween. However, the white one will look good too - the main thing is, before decorating an apartment with it, take a red candle, light it, and lightly pour the white one with melted paraffin, imitating blood streaks. Very relevant!

5. However, it is possible and not candles - the simplest candlesticks of the most ordinary cans will look breathtaking if you apply to each of them hastily drawing in the form of scary faces, skulls, spiders and other nasty things. By the way, it is not at all necessary to buy expensive paints for glass: Halloween lasts one night, and gouache or ordinary acrylic will completely outlive it.

6. Down with white starched tablecloths, the table should be covered with a black cloth! Put on long knee-highs on the table legs, shoe them in old boots - here's another "guest" in the Halloween format.

7.A the bats? Cutting them out of black paper is a piece of cake. It remains to hang it in the trees, hide it around the corner, attach it on the balcony. Checked - people are guaranteed to flinch when such an animal suddenly appears before their eyes.

8. A few meters of cheap white gauze thrown over the chandelier - and now you have a personal ghost at your party. Do not forget to draw the eyes - for more persuasiveness.

9. If suddenly you are not lucky enough to buy a lot of red-headed pumpkins, blow up the balloons. Orange, of course. Arm yourself with a black insulating tape, depict monsters and monsters on the balls - voila, you can decorate the house.

10. Have you seen table tennis balls in your nearest sporting goods store? Have you met the sets of "eyes" for children's creativity in the nearest office? Glue them together - and now there are nasty eyeballs that can be laid out on plates, discreetly shoved into the pockets of guests, and presented at parting.
