How to distinguish GMO products from real ones? List of GMOs - genetically modified foods.

07.09.2019 Snacks

Due to the fact that most manufacturers do not advertise the presence of chemical additives or GMO raw materials in food, we need to be careful about purchases in grocery stores. This article contains tips for choosing healthy foods.

Even in the laboratory it is very difficult to determine the presence of GMOs in a product. A genetically modified product is when the isolated gene of one organism is implanted into the cell of another, and if the gene is integrated into another (unplanned by a person) link, then it will not be detected. Also, they will not find an embedded gene of another GM organism, because it is a different gene and is embedded in another link - there is no specific correspondence

Let's try to figure this out on the example of potatoes. GM potatoes with the scorpion gene. The laboratory will first check how many species of GM potatoes are registered on the territory of the Russian Federation: the first species with the tulip gene inserted in one specific part of the DNA chain, the second species with the Colorado potato beetle gene inserted in another part of the DNA chain. Therefore, even if your potatoes are GMO, but they have not received certificates for it, the scorpion gene will not be determined, for the simple reason that it is very expensive and very long to go through the entire potato DNA chain and check it for all possible insertions.

And now the most important thing. All this does not mean that there are no GMOs in our products, it only means that it cannot be identified in our laboratories. In Russia, it is forbidden to grow GM crops on an industrial scale, but it is allowed to sell. Some imported GMOs (lines of soy, rice, corn, sugar beets, potatoes) have been registered in Russia, are allowed for consumption and can be used in any product (including baby food!).

Naturally, the West needs our clean land, but we ourselves do not.

Therefore, the products grown on the territory of Russia are most likely not GM products, provided that the state farms use their seeds or buy them from a reliable source. But the problem is that there are almost no state farms left. Large areas were bought or leased by foreign agro-industrial enterprises. And what they plant on the ground and what they water with is unknown, obviously these are not natural products. Previously, such products were processed, but now?

It is clear to everyone that hypermarkets and retail chains purchase large consignments of imported goods, mainly food products of trans-corporations. A priori, these products cannot be natural.

Take these tips:

1. Try to buy less convenience food - pizza dumplings, pancakes, etc. Do not be lazy, go to the market, buy meat for cutlets there. There are more chances that such meat will be “cleaner, since the farmer is interested in the buyer (after all, he cannot put his product in a hypermarket). And if he sells outright filth, then they will no longer come to him

2. Buy cereals. Not newfangled scalded, polished, instant food, but traditional ones - rice, buckwheat, millet. By the way, buckwheat has not yet been modified.

3. It is better to buy fruits grown in the territory of the former USSR, such as apples, pears, cherries, also tangerines, pomegranates, grapes, in general, everything that was planted at least 5 years ago. But bananas, oranges, kiwi, strawberries (out of season) are likely to be transgenic. Pay attention to the fruit seed, if the mandarin contains a live seed with a green embryo, this is a natural product, since the genetically modified product is practically sterile. And most importantly - the natural product smells!

4. Pay attention to the appearance. A natural vegetable is not so beautiful: a tomato with a green barrel, an onion on a feather with yellowed thick ends, an apple will be wormy, and the size should not be gigantic. Insects never eat GM foods! For example, potatoes, if they grow, are most likely not GMOs. I buy potatoes in the village from one grandpa, so I cut off the tails twice until spring.

5. Of course you can't buy dairy products “like grandmother's in a store, such a delicacy can only be found in a village in a private courtyard. Carefully buy goods labeled BIOsmetana, BIOkefir, BIOyogurt.

6. Read the composition - GMOs cannot be in vegetable oils, dairy products that do not contain soy protein (the modified genetic code can only be passed on to certain proteins of plants and animals), in fish and other seafood. But it can be in semi-finished fish products such as crab and fish sticks.

7. Be wary if the product contains a huge amount of ingredients, if the label contains words that are unfamiliar to you, there is liquid smoke in the product, if the product is made in the USA and contains soy, corn, rapeseed or potatoes, such a product is better do not buy.

8. Confectionery (ready-made cakes, sweets with different fillings, flavored cookies), chips, crackers, as well as bread that stays fresh for a long time - almost all contain GMOs. I try to buy only chocolate with a cocoa bean content of at least 68%, especially since it improves mood and activates mental activity.

Of course, a good product costs more, but you can't buy health! Moreover, the drugs are also GM.

Hello everyone!

Recently I was very much surprised by one of my acquaintances, by the way, a biologist by education, with her opinion about GMO products.

We were choosing something in the store and I, as always, paid attention to the label "No GMO", she, noticing this, told me that I was doing all this in vain and GMO products were not so dangerous and harmful as everyone considers it.

This is just a misconception and a hyped myth.

Of course, I was very excited about this and I decided to figure out why GMOs are dangerous in food, more thoroughly.

And here's what I managed to find out.

In this article, you will learn:

GMO in food - what is it and why is it dangerous?

What is GMO?

GMOs (genetically modified organisms) are plants and products created by genetic engineering.

Genetic engineering is a science that allows you to introduce into the genome of a plant, animal or microorganism a piece of DNA from any other organism in order to give it certain properties.

For example, tomatoes and strawberries can get the frost resistance gene from the Arctic flounder, potatoes and corn - the gene for bacteria that are deadly to insect pests, rice - the gene for human albumin to make it more nutritious.

Are there any benefits of GMOs in food?

If we consider GM components only from this point of view, then they bring very good benefits.

They allow you to get high-quality large yields without the use of chemical fertilizers, plant protection products, which leads to cheaper prices for these products and an increase in their shelf life.

For animal organisms, GMO is used to accelerate their growth.

Therefore, those who are supporters of GMOs declare that these products are the future, and they can make a huge contribution to the fight against hunger and disease around the world.

And also, according to the opinion of geneticists, with proper control, these organisms can be safe and today there are many methodological techniques for controlling genetic engineering in order to minimize potential risks.

Is there any harm in GMOs?

However, despite what was written above, there are a huge number of opposing opinions that state that any products containing GMOs are very dangerous and harmful.

Many scientists consider one of the most important side effects of GMOs, this is its adverse effect on offspring. that is, the consequences of the use of GMO products may appear only after several years or generations.

Other scientists believe that GM foods cause tumor growth, allergies, metabolic disorders, and antibiotic resistance.

However, the benefits or harms of GMOs for the human body and ecosystems have not been proven by official science.

And which of them will win, only time will tell.

How to distinguish GMO foods?

Therefore, I nevertheless decided to stick to my opinion, not take risks and, if possible, exclude all possible GMO foods from the diet of my family.

I do not exclude that someday my opinion will change, but for now, I will try to strongly avoid such products, although it is very difficult.

In our country, it is almost impossible to determine by the label that a product is GMO-free.

According to our laws, the “No GMO” badge is placed if the product contains less than 0.9% GMO, but even this law is bypassed by manufacturers.

Therefore, all we can do is to somehow limit the use of those products that at least theoretically can contain GMOs.

What foods contain GMOs?

  • Anything Contains Soy, Corn, and Rapeseed

Some sources officially state that all of these products are GMO.

If you see vegetable protein on the label, it is 100% soy.

All meat and sausages, semi-finished products, chips, store sauces, ketchups, canned food (especially corn), all soy dairy products are very rich in such protein.

  • Vegetable oil and margarine

By the way, it was a shock for me to learn that now olive oil is diluted with soybean oil and they don't even write about it on the labels.

  • Children food

Most of all well-known baby food manufacturers use GMOs in their products.

  • Ice cream

Contains 90% GMO. Cook the best homemade

  • Sweets and chocolates

I almost never met chocolate without soy lecithin.

  • Bakery and confectionery
  • Of the vegetables, these are most often imported potatoes, tomatoes, melons, zucchini, papaya.

How to define a GMO product by its composition?

You can also assume the presence of GMOs by looking at the composition of the product.

  • For example, soy lecithin or E 322 lecithin can be found in very many products.
  • It binds water and fats together and is used as a fatty element in formula milk, biscuits, chocolate, riboflavin (B2) otherwise known as E 101 and E 101A, can be produced from GM microorganisms.

It is added to cereals, soft drinks, baby food, and weight loss products.

  • Also, the presence of GMO in a product may be evidenced by such components as soybean oil, vegetable fat, maltodextrin, glucose, dextrose, aspartame.
  • Also pay attention to the country of origin.

Remember that 68% of all GMO products are made by the USA, followed by France and Canada.

And a very sad fact, since July 2014, the cultivation of plants using the GMO method has been officially allowed in Russia.

In our country, it is allowed to use 14 types of GMOs (8 varieties of corn, 4 varieties of potatoes, 1 variety of rice, and 1 variety of sugar beet) for the sale and production of food.

The worst thing about this is that, according to the assumptions of many scientists, this will all lead to the complete destruction of farms and environmentally friendly agriculture in our country.

I am quoting Alexander Kazakov, co-chairman of the Coordinating Council of the Ecological Chamber of Russia.

“Those farmers who today are trying to grow environmentally friendly products will throw money down the drain - their entire harvest will be polluted. Super wreckers will appear, as they appeared in other countries. Growing GMOs on its own territory is fraught with soil contamination for the country. For example, in Canada, all rapeseed in the country became genetically modified as a result of the spread of pollen from GM rapeseed to neighboring fields. "

Non-GMO products

If you have the opportunity to purchase products labeled BIO or Organic, such products also exist in Russia, you just have to look for them.

Most often they are denoted with this icon.

EU Organic Bio is a single European Union mark used to designate packaging of organic food products grown without chemical fertilizers.

For example, I bought this kind of domestic rolled oats and such flour in an ordinary supermarket.

There may also be such badges, especially on imported products.

This labeling 99% guarantees that the entire path of the product, starting from agricultural land and agricultural enterprises, seeds, processing methods, packaging are certified and constantly undergo control.

And the products are manufactured in accordance with the strictest technological requirements and environmental standards of the European Union and international certification organizations.

On domestic products, you need to look for the Rostet or Voluntary certification badge, this will be at least some kind of designation of product quality.

For vegetables and fruits, buy seasonal and local ones while you still have the opportunity.

GREENPEACE PRODUCT DIRECTORY

"How to choose products without transgenes?"

In Russia, there is only one organization that somehow took control of GMO products, this is Greenpeace.

According to him, more than a third of the products on the Russian market are genetically modified.

In addition, Greenpeace Russia has released the country's first consumer guide "How to choose products without transgenes?"

The guide was compiled on the basis of information received from manufacturing companies about the content of genetically modified ingredients (GMI) in their products.

Greenpeace also conducted spot checks in specialized laboratories. But, after 2005, this guide has not been updated :(

You can download it in PDF format, 1.4 Mb

In general, my friends, draw your own conclusions.

I very much wish you to find good, quality natural and affordable non-GMO products on the shelves of your stores.

I myself am in constant search of them.

Maybe if we unite and stop eating this "poison" and giving our money for it, something will change in this direction for the better ...

Or is it a fight against windmills?

GMO, nitrates, are we being poisoned on purpose? How do you think?

When I was writing this post, I had a film in my head about how a small handful of people survived in the world and fought for their existence.

Probably, this is no longer beyond fantasy ...

Or am I greatly exaggerating everything?)))

If I'm wrong, convince me.

Alena Yasneva was with you, bye everyone

The topic of this article is "GMOs: Benefit or Harm?" Let's try to understand this issue with an open mind. After all, it is precisely the lack of objectivity that many materials on this controversial topic sin today. Today, in many countries of the world (including Russia), the concept of GMO has begun to be used when talking about "products that cause tumors and mutations." GMOs are sprinkled with mud from all sides for various reasons: tasteless, unsafe, and threaten the food independence of our country. But are they so scary and what is it really about? Let's answer these questions.

Deciphering the concept

GMOs are genetically modified organisms, that is, modified using genetic engineering methods. This concept in the narrow sense applies to plants. In the past, various breeders, such as Michurin, have achieved beneficial properties in plants using various tricks. These included, in particular, grafting cuttings of some trees onto others, or choosing to sow seeds with only certain qualities. After that, it was necessary to wait a long time for the results, which only after a couple of generations were firmly manifested. Today, the desired gene can be transferred to the right place and thus quickly get what you want. That is, GMO is the direction of evolution in the right direction, its acceleration.

The original goal of GMO breeding

Several techniques can be used to create a GMO plant. The most popular today is the transgenic method. The necessary gene (for example, the gene for drought resistance) for this is isolated in its pure form from the DNA chain. After that, it is introduced into the DNA of the plant to be modified.

Genes can be derived from related species. In this case, the process is called cisgenesis. Transgenesis occurs when a gene is taken from a distant species.

It is about the latter that creepy stories go about. Many, having learned that wheat today exists with the scorpion gene, begin to fantasize about whether those who eat it will grow claws and tails. Numerous illiterate publications on forums and websites Today, the topic of GMOs, the benefits or harms of which are very actively discussed, has not lost its relevance. However, this is not the only thing that "specialists", who are not familiar with biochemistry and biology, scare potential consumers of products containing GMOs.

Today, such products have agreed to call everything that is genetically modified organisms or any products that contain components of these organisms. That is, GMO food will be not only genetically modified potatoes or corn, but also sausages, which are added in addition to liver and GMO soy. But products made from cow meat fed with GMO wheat will not be considered such a product.

The effect of GMOs on the human body

Journalists who are not versed in topics such as genetic engineering and biotechnology, but who understand the relevance and urgency of the GMO problem, launched a duck that, getting into our intestines and stomach, cells containing their products are absorbed into the bloodstream and then carried through tissues and organs. in which cancers and mutations are caused.

It should be noted that this fantastic plot is far from reality. Any food, without GMOs or with them, in the intestine and stomach breaks down under the action of intestinal enzymes, pancreatic secretion and gastric juice into its constituent parts, and they are not genes at all and not even proteins. These are amino acids, triglycerides, simple sugars and fatty acids. All this in different parts of the digestive tract is then absorbed into the bloodstream, after which it is spent for various purposes: to obtain energy (sugar), as a building material (amino acids), for energy reserves (fats).

For example, if you take a genetically modified organism (for example, an ugly apple that looks like a cucumber), then it will be calmly chewed and decomposed into its constituent parts in the same way as any other non-GMO.

Other GMO horror stories

Another story, no less chilling, concerns the fact that transgenes are embedded in them, which leads to dire consequences like infertility and cancer. For the first time in 2012, the French wrote about cancer in mice that were given genetically modified grain. In fact, a sample of 200 Sprague-Dawley rats was made by Gilles-Eric Séralini, the head of the experiment. Of these, a third was fed with GMO corn, the other third was fed with herbicide-treated genetically modified corn, and the last was fed with conventional corn. As a result, female rats that ate genetically modified organisms (GMOs) gave an 80% tumor growth within two years. The males, on the other hand, earned renal and hepatic pathologies on this diet. Characteristically, on a regular diet, a third of the animals also died from various tumors. This line of rats is generally prone to the sudden appearance of tumors, not related to the nature of the diet. Therefore, the purity of the experiment can be considered questionable, and it was recognized as untenable and unscientific.

Similar surveys were carried out earlier, in 2005, in our country. Biologist Ermakova studied GMOs in Russia. She presented at a conference in Germany a report on the high mortality rate of mice treated with GMO soy. The statement, confirmed in a scientific experiment, then began to spread throughout the world, driving young mothers to hysteria. After all, they had to feed their babies with artificial mixtures. And they used GMO soybeans. Five Nature Biotechnology experts later agreed that the results of the Russian experiment were ambiguous, and did not recognize its reliability.

I would like to add that even if a piece of foreign DNA ends up in a person's bloodstream, this genetic information will not be incorporated into the body in any way and will not lead to anything. Of course, in nature, there are cases of integration of pieces of the genome into an alien organism. In particular, some bacteria in this way spoil the genetics of flies. However, such phenomena have not been described in higher animals. In addition, there is more than enough genetic information in non-GMO foods. And if they have not been incorporated into the human genetic material until now, then you can continue to calmly eat everything that the body assimilates, including those containing GMOs.

Benefit or harm?

Monsanto, an American company, introduced genetically modified products to the market in 1982: soybeans and cotton. She also owns the authorship of the Roundup herbicide, which kills all vegetation, with the exception of the genetically modified one.

In 1996, when Monsanto's products were released into the marketplace, competing corporations launched a massive revenue-saving campaign to curb the circulation of GMO products. The first to be persecuted was Arpad Pusztai, a British scientist. He fed the rats with GMO potatoes. However, subsequently the experts smashed all the calculations of this scientist to smithereens.

Potential harm to Russians from GM foods

Nobody hides the fact that nothing else grows on the GMO-planted grain lands except themselves. This is due to the fact that varieties of cotton or soybeans that are resistant to herbicides do not stain with them. Thus, they can be sprayed, achieving the extinction of all other vegetation.

Glyphosphate is the most common herbicide. In fact, it is sprayed even before the maturation of the plants and quickly decomposes in them, without being stored in the soil. However, GMO resistant plants allow it to be used in huge quantities, which increases the risks of glyphosphate accumulation in GMO vegetation. This herbicide is also known to cause bone growth and obesity. And in Latin America and the United States, there are a lot of overweight people.

Many GMO seeds are designed for just one sowing. That is, the offspring will not give what will grow out of them. This is most likely a commercial gimmick, as it increases the marketing of GMO seeds. The modified plants that produce the next generations are fine.

Since artificial mutations in genes (for example, in soy or potatoes) can increase the allergenic properties of products, it is often said that GMOs are powerful allergens. But some varieties of peanuts, devoid of the usual proteins, do not cause allergies even among those who have suffered from it before to this particular product.

Due to their peculiarities, they can reduce the number of other varieties of their kind. If ordinary wheat and GMO wheat are planted in two plots located next to each other, there is a risk that the modified one will displace the usual one, pollinating it. However, hardly anyone would have let them grow up next to them.

By giving up its own sowing funds and using only GMO seeds, especially disposable seeds, the state will eventually find itself in food dependence on the firms that are the holders of the seed fund.

Conferences with the participation of Rospotrebnadzor

After horror stories and stories about GMO products were repeatedly disseminated in all the media, Rospotrebnadzor took part in many conferences on this issue. At a conference in Italy in March 2014, his delegation participated in technical consultations on the low content of genetically modified organisms in Russian trade. Thus, today, a course has been adopted for the almost complete non-admission of such products to the food market of our country. The use of GMO plants in agriculture was also delayed, although the use of GMO seeds was planned to begin as early as 2013 (government decree of September 23, 2013).

Barcode

The Ministry of Education and Science went even further. It proposed the use of a barcode replacing the label "Does not contain GMOs" in Russia. It should contain all information about the genetic modification contained in the product or about its absence. A good start, but without a special device it will be impossible to read this barcode.

Genetically modified foods and the law

GMOs are regulated by law in some states. In Europe, for example, their content in products is not allowed more than 0.9%, in Japan - 9%, in the USA - 10%. In our country, products in which the GMO content exceeds 0.9% are subject to mandatory labeling. For violation of these laws, enterprises are threatened with sanctions, up to and including termination of activities.

Output

The conclusion from all this can be done as follows: the problem of GMOs (benefits or harms from the use of products containing them) is clearly exaggerated today. The real consequences of long-term use of such products are unknown. To date, no authoritative scientific experiments have been carried out on this issue.

Much has been written about GMOs. Negative and positive. But I was offended by this phrase I read on the Internet: “There are no reliable methods for determining the consequences of the spread of GMOs and their products for nature and humans. Many of the negative effects of GMOs will manifest themselves only in a succession of generations. " This is a quote from a report that was compiled for Vladimir Putin four years ago. It was prepared by the committee of the Federation Council on agrarian and food policy.

So ...

The impact on plant genetics is the same impact on nature, only deeper than the impact on the environment.
The use of such products in food cannot bring about an improvement in the genetics of the consumer of this product. Simply because the modern knowledge of geneticists is still only destructive, like that of small children who like to poke around in complex toys. How a small child can disassemble an alarm clock and study it with interest, but to assemble, and even more to improve, he can only “put in a bag” such an alarm clock.
The perception of the dangers of GMOs by ordinary citizens is dulled. Most of the people do not think about it at all: some due to lack of attention on this topic, and some due to poor awareness.
It is important to understand that for those people who think about their descendants, it is useful to exclude all GMO products from the diet ... out of harm's way ... Take care of your children.
I think today it is no longer a secret for anyone that genetically modified foods are dangerous for the health of people and all living organisms on the planet. They have a particularly negative effect on the immune and genitourinary systems. The immune system is responsible for resistance to pathogenic bacteria and viruses, and the genitourinary system for the continuation of the genus Exclamation.
The influence of GMOs has not yet been fully studied, but there is a danger that they can lead to the complete death of all living organisms on the planet.
Alien DNA, getting into the human body with food, is absorbed from the intestine into the bloodstream and from there it is able to penetrate into any cell of the body and change (mutate) its DNA. In addition, according to research data, the transgene has strong antibiotic resistance.

Honeycan be harvested from genetically modified plants.

There is a high frequency of information that bees cannot pollinate genetically modified buckwheat. So there is one.

Fig.In general, it is better to buy not anonymous varieties of plant products, but rather specific ones. For example, rice "Basmati". It is highly likely that in this case the product will not be GMO.

Anonymous rice, as well as Chinese or Taiwanese, is most likely transgenic.

Russia is one of the main importers of this product from the PRC. However, according to environmentalists, the Chinese have been producing GM rice unofficially for two years and exporting it.

The fact that genetically modified rice is being illegally grown in China was reported by environmentalists back in April. “In the spring of 2005, Greenpeace took samples of rice obtained from supplier companies, farmers and millers from the PRC for genetic testing in the German laboratory Genescan,” Maya Kolikova, spokeswoman for Greenpeace Russia, told NI. - It turned out that more than 2/3 of the samples (19 out of 25) were genetically modified.

A survey of farmers and grain suppliers from China revealed that for more than two years transgenic rice has been illegally grown and actively sold both domestically and abroad. "

The situation, according to environmentalists, is aggravated by the fact that the PRC government is considering the possibility of legalizing industrial production of GM rice. The "greens" believe that the Russians will suffer the most from the actions of the Chinese authorities - the supply of the product from this country makes up more than 60% of all our rice imports.

However, in this case there are not only disadvantages, but also advantages. Indeed, until now, rice supplied to Russia was formally considered unmodified, and checks for the content of GMI in it were not carried out. Therefore, no one can say how many transgenes we have already eaten and will eat more. If the consumer has information about where the rice comes from, he will be able to decide for himself whether to buy this product or not.

Environmentalists, however, see the problem not so much in the cereal itself, which can really be abandoned, as in the distribution of products with added rice flour, including many for children - milk mixtures and cereals, noodles, semi-finished products. The country of origin of the ingredients, manufacturers, as a rule, do not indicate.

I would like to point out that "Indica", the term that can be found on packets of rice, is not the original name of any variety. It just means long grain rice. He may be from China as well.

Attention! Signs of transgenic vegetables and fruits.

Can modified fruits and vegetables be distinguished from natural ones?

Too clean, little different from each other potato tubers or tomatoes of perfectly regular shape - a reason to think. After all, a sure sign of natural natural products is the presence in the total mass of rotten and "eaten" by insects. Insects never eat GM foods! If you cut a natural tomato or strawberry, they will immediately give juice, unnatural ones retain their shape.

The most famous products containing GM ingredients are:

(according to Greenpeace)

1. Snickers Chocolate Bars

2. Pepsi

3. Spices Maggi

4. Pringles Chips

Vegetable counters are piled high"Volgograd" tomatoesoramilike twins looking like Turkish. It turns out that in Volgograd for several years only imported "plastic" varieties without taste and smell have been grown on a mass scale.

I wouldn't be surprised if they turn out to be GMOs. I stopped buying these varieties of tomatoes, and I rarely bought them before.

From the article by E. Yakusheva "What are transgenic products?":

Now 90% of the export of transgenic food products is corn and soybeans... Popcorn, which is sold everywhere on the streets, is 100% made from GM corn, and there is still no corresponding mark on it. Soy products from North America or Argentina are 80% GM products.

GM products are attractive to retailers. For example, genetically modified vegetables and fruits are 4-5 times cheaper than their natural counterparts.

From the book of Liniza Zhuvanovna Zhalpanova:

"Foods That Kill You":

Transgenic products are purchased by Russia in other countries with the permission of the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Russian Federation. According to statistics, about 70% of imported products are made from genetically modified raw materials. Such products include: soy products, flour, chocolate, chocolate bars, wine, baby food, milk powder, milk, kefir, yogurt, cottage cheese, carbonated drinks, canned corn and tomatoes, corn oil, cookies, starch, soy protein, soy butter, soy sauce, lecithin, cottonseed oil, syrups, tomato sauces, coffee and coffee drinks, popcorn, cereals, etc.

It is assumed that part of imported beer also contains genetically modified molecules that the modified yeast drink takes over.

According to the National Association for Genetic Safety, about 1/3 of all products on the Russian market contain genetically modified components.

Greenpeace guide "How to avoid the use of foods with genetically modified ingredients (GM foods)?"

You can from here, from the Greenpeace website

The handbook contains lists of grocery enterprises, divided into three categories (green, orange and red lists) according to the criterion for the presence of GM components in products.

Canned store vegetables are often included in the New Year's menu. But canned corn and green peas highly undesirable. They are GMOs.

According to a month and a half of research, our food is simply crammed with genetically modified organisms. Moreover, the food is the most popular in our area - sausages, dumplings, dry soups, canned vegetables, chocolates.

Environmentalists (Greenpeace and the All-Ukrainian Ecological League) categorically include in this list the products of the most famous brands - Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Nestle, Gallina Blanka, Knorr, Lipton, Bonduel. A full list of companies that have confirmed that their products may contain GM components or have not denied their use can be found at .

“The results of the study showed that 18 out of 42 randomly selected foods contained genetically modified soy exceeded 3 percent, - said Mikhail Mukharovsky, general director of Ukrmetrteststandart. "At the same time, nine of them did not indicate the presence of soy protein at all."

Bonduelthus blacklisted!

I understand that the accuracy of what is on the list is not guaranteed, as the sources of information may be questionable. But otherwise I have practically no opportunity to keep such a list at all.

Orchard, Rich puree- Genetically modified foods.

By the way, the very first genetically modified product on the market is food banana, and any (to increase productivity, he has, roughly speaking, a duplicated set of chromosomes).

If about banana: artificially induced polyploidy is also a form of gene modification (because the chromosome set becomes larger in comparison with the original organism), most importantly, cheap and angry. But journalists have not yet learned to frighten people with it.

Firm "Mistral"probably deliberately does not mark the country of origin of those cereals and legumesthat are packed in them. The fact is that she "lit up" in the sale of American crops, which, most likely, are genetically modified. Also "Rice Basmati" is not labeled. Unfortunately, as I only learned today, it is highly likely to be transgenic. From the book “Seeds of Destruction. The Secret Background of Genetic Manipulation, "by William F. Engdahl:

RiceTech, a Texas-based biotech company, has decided that it will receive payments under the patent for rice "Basmati", a variation that has been a staple of the daily diet for millennia in India, Pakistan and Asia. In 1998, RiceTech patented genetically modified Basmati rice, and thanks to US laws prohibiting the labeling of genetic products, RiceTech was able to sell it legally, labeling it as regular Basmati rice. It turned out that "RiceTech" with dubious means took possession of precious seeds "Basmati", which were deposited in the International Rice Research Institute of the Rockefeller Foundation in the Philippines (IRIR). (ten)

In the name of “safety,” IRID duplicated an invaluable rice seed collection in the Philippines and kept it in a seed bank in Fort Collins, Colorado, making a highly dubious promise that the seed would be stored as a safe seed supply for rice farmers. IRIR convinced farmers that providing them with their invaluable finds in rice seed varieties of IRIR would serve their own safety.

Far from the Philippines, Colorado IRID donated valuable seeds (without which RiceTech might not have made its proprietary genetic modifications) to RiceTech researchers, who immediately patented everything they could. They knew it was quite illegal: even in Texas, rice researchers know that Basmati rice doesn't usually grow in the dusty plains around Texas Crawford. (eleven)

RiceTech, in collusion with IRID, stole the seeds for its patent. In addition, according to carefully designed rules established by the Rockefeller Foundation IRID, although seeds from a genebank cannot be patented, any man-made improved variation based on them can be patented.

The Jasmine variety also has a GM modification.

From the article "Transgenic" senior tomato "and Dolly the sheep ...":

You can delay the ripening of already harvested fruits by placing them in special conditions. With the help of carbon dioxide, the action of ethylene produced by the fruit is blocked. These properties are manipulated by traders carrying bananas, citrus fruits and vegetables - and tomatoes and in particular. They are harvested green, and on the way they are treated with ethylene, causing artificial maturation. Such fruits and vegetables lose their taste and ripen unevenly. And it's easy to be convinced of this. For example, the tomatoes we buy on the market are red on the outside and white on the inside. The delay in ripening is also due to the fact that basically the tomatoes that we sell are imported from Turkey, and they are all transgenic. Even the boxes in which they are packed are written: TRANSGEN.

Excerpts from the book of Mikhail Efremov: “Caution! Harmful products! "

E-570 - Fatty Acids (fatty acids);

E-951 - Aspartame (aspartame, or nutrosvit).

GM additives:

Riboflavin (B2)otherwise known as E 101 and E 101A, made from GM microorganisms, it is approved for sale in a number of countries. It is added in cereals, soft drinks, baby food and weight loss products.Caramel (E 150) and xanthan (E 415) can be produced from grain.

Lecithin (E 322) is made from soythat can be genetically modified. Such soy uses in particular company Nesltein their chocolate, baby food and other foods.Other additives that may contain GM components: E 153, E 160 d, E 161 c, E 308-9, E-471, E 472a, E 473, E 475, E 476 b, E 477, E479 a, E 570, E 572, E 573, E 620, E 621, E 622, E 633, E 624, E 625.

I would like to emphasize that food additives for any purpose (technological, to “improve” consumer qualities) can be included, among other things, in Dietary supplement... Therefore, it is important to know which of the food additives are prohibited or dangerous.

I have seen how it works dairy production... Only milk after that is not very thirsty.

And only raw cow's milk can be consumed. You can make curdled milk from the store, and not from any, but preferably from the one on which it is written that it is made from natural (whole) cow's milk (its fat content is usually indicated as 3.4-6%). It is not worth drinking such milk in its pure form, because it is pasteurized and with its regular use, joints will begin to ache after a while - most likely due to the deposition of inorganic calcium in them, which appears during pasteurization (passes from an organically bound form to an inorganic form). But you can make curdled milk from it - it turns out quite well and does not cause problems.

But any milk, normalized by fat content, is a real poison. And even curdled milk from such milk turns out to be unimportant, except from milk with a fat content of no more than 1% - lactobacilli at least cope with such concentrations of modified milk fat.
