Now you know how to cook potato casserole in the oven. This dish can be easily made by both an experienced hostess and those who are in the kitchen for the first time. And a hearty and delicious lunch or dinner for the family will be guaranteed.

  • potatoes - 600 g,
  • stewed meat - 1 can (525g),
  • eggplant - 1 pc.,
  • tomatoes - 2 pcs.,
  • cheese - 70 g,
  • paprika - 1 tsp,
  • salt to taste
  • pepper - to taste
  • italian herbs - 1 tsp
  • butter - for greasing the mold.

Cooking process:

Put the prepared potatoes (peeled, well washed and cut into small cubes) in a saucepan of cold water (2 liters). We put on a strong fire, wait for the water to boil, cook on a low boil, covered with a lid, until the potatoes become soft. This is approximately 20-25 minutes. Then drain the water, puree the potatoes.

Put the stew in a deep frying pan, put it on the fire and evaporate all the liquid we don't need.

For the filling, cut vegetables (eggplant and tomatoes) into small cubes, add to the pan to the meat, salt, pepper (do not overdo it with salt, because the beef stew already contains spices), season with Italian herbs. Simmer over low heat, covered, stirring occasionally, until the eggplants are soft, about 10 minutes. If at the end of the specified time the eggplants are still a little raw, don't worry, they will "reach" in the oven.

Grease the rectangular ovenproof baking dish with plenty of butter. Divide the mashed potatoes into two equal parts, one of which we put on the bottom of the form, tamping well. If you want the casserole to hold its shape well, add 2 tablespoons of flour to the puree.

With the second layer, lay out the filling from the stew and vegetables. It is desirable that this layer does not contain excess moisture, therefore, after preparing the filling, I throw it in a colander. Put the remaining mashed potatoes on top and level.

Rub the cheese on a coarse grater. For a delicious-looking casserole, I mix prepared cheese with sweet ground paprika. If you like spicy food, then some of the paprika can be replaced with chili. We spread the cheese on the second layer of potatoes. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees. Since the dish is almost ready, the potato casserole is baked in the oven with cheese for a very short time, 15 minutes.
