Beer prague for locals. Czech beer

27.08.2019 Desserts and cakes

It's time for a traditional gastronomic article, in which I will talk about popular Czech dishes and give recommendations on where to eat in Prague and taste national food and, of course, Czech beer. I do not recommend reading the article on an empty stomach!

By the way, if you are a gastro-tourist, then you may also be interested in the articles:

What to try in the Czech Republic. National dishes.

Perhaps I'll start by listing the most popular Czech dishes.

  1. Drowned sausage marinated in vinegar with onions, paprika and spices. Served with beer.
  2. Smazhak is a traditional snack. In fact - fried cheese in breadcrumbs.
  3. Garlic is a garlic soup that becomes most popular with the onset of cold weather. In restaurants it is served in a bread pot.
  4. Goulash. A beef dish that doesn't look like Hungarian goulash or even German goulashsup. Often served in bread.
  5. Svichkova is the "brother" of Czech goulash. It consists of beef tenderloin served with creamy or sour cream sauce, as well as dumplings, lemon and sometimes cranberry sauce.
  6. Smoked pork with stewed cabbage and dumplings is one of the most popular dishes among Czechs.
  7. Pork knuckle, pork knee, boar's knee are a Czech brand (although the dish is popular in Germany as well). As a rule, a knuckle is designed for several people, check with the menu or with the waiter. But there are also small knuckles that can be done by one.
  8. Fried sausages are popular in pubs or street markets, especially during Christmas markets
  9. Bohemian roasted duck (Pechena Kahna) - served with dumplings and stewed red cabbage.
  10. Fried / baked rabbit
  11. Bramboraki - potato cakes like pancakes.
  12. Dumplings are dumplings made from plain or potato flour. Common dumplings often replace bread or a side dish, and sweet ones (for example, stuffed with fruit filling) are served for dessert.
  13. Payments - large round waffles with different fillings, Karlovy Vary dessert. In Karlovy Vary itself, you can buy one by one hot payment cards. Everywhere in the Czech Republic, payment cards are sold in stores (in boxes of several pieces). Nice souvenir from the Czech Republic.
  14. Trdelnik is a national Czech sweet street food (in fact, this dish appeared with the advent of tourists in the Czech Republic). You can try both regular trdelnik and trdelnik with chocolate (or even ice cream). Many may disagree with me, but for me it tastes like a May bun))
  15. Numerous Czech beers

Where to try national food and beer in Prague

I turn to 20 popular places in Prague where you can eat, drink beer or just relax with a cup of coffee. Here will be presented not only the establishments in which I managed to visit, but also the establishments recommended by locals and other tourists that I have included in my list. I share it with you, and you just have to choose.

# 1. Restaurant U Modre Ruze

According to tourists, the restaurant in the basement is closed as of December 2018!

Czech restaurant. Not only is it located in the center of the Old Town, but also in a very colorful medieval cellar. We entered it by chance, after we seemed tall in the neighboring restaurants. As a result, we had dinner there two whole times, and if we didn't have to leave, we would have gone again.

The menu contains almost all national Czech dishes at very reasonable prices.

On our first lunch we tried baked knee (290czk) and goulashsup (169 czk) in bread, 2 types of beer (50czk + 35czk):

Lunch cost 544 CZK + tip (23 euros)

Second time: goulash with dumplings (197czk), Prague delicacy (assorted meats) with dumplings (238czk), fruit dumplings (99czk), three beers (35czk + 35czk + 50czk), tea (50czk)

Sweet dumplings for dessert

Lunch cost 704 CZK + tip (30 euros)

Took a brochure with a menu:

Everything is very tasty, the dark Kozel is especially good. Service is good, in Russian.

Restaurant address: Rytířská 403/16

# 2. Restaurant U Medvidku

One of the most popular restaurants in Prague, also in the Old Town. In summer, there is a summer veranda behind the restaurant (you have to go around, there are signs).

Ordered: baked duck with stewed cabbage and 4 types of dumplings (333czk), snack toast with beer cheese (85czk), Budvar light and dark beer (45czk + 45czk)

In total, lunch cost 508 kroons + tip (22 euros).

In principle, I liked everything, the service is very fast. There are Russian speaking staff.

Address: Na Perštýně 344/5

Number 3. Potrefená husa Na Verandách restaurant

Our third restaurant. It is located in the Smichov region, on the western coast. We dined on the veranda (entrance through the restaurant), the veranda is very cozy.

We ordered grease with French fries (179czk), pork schnitzel with salad, which is very similar to our oliveska :) (169czk) and two beers (43czk + 45czk).

Total 436 czk + tip (€ 19)

The french fries were obviously superfluous here, but overall a good establishment. The beer was brought immediately, the food had to wait, but not for long. I did not notice anything negative about the service.

Address: Nádražní 43/84

No. 4. Výtopna Railway Restaurant

We ordered only beer: Krusovice dark (35czk), light (29czk), radler (49czk).

If you do not book a table, you must pay 25czk per person for entry (book on the website vytopna.cz)

Vytopna restaurant interior

Total: 163czk + generous tip (7 euros)

The place is definitely unusual and interesting. Beer, in general, is common, food is not cheap. Didn't like that you have to pay for the entrance.

No. 12. SOVA Restaurant

New restaurant in Prague with a very unusual menu. The concept of the restaurant is modern cuisine with elements of traditional Czech dishes. You won't try the traditional knee here! The specialties of the restaurant are salad with smoked carp (smoked themselves), veal cheeks stewed in red wine with mint potatoes and the most unusual - beer sorbet made from real dark beer with buckwheat mousse (pictured above). Beer Krusovice, 40 CZK for 0.5l.

« Serving some dishes, as in gourmet restaurants (we saw a lot of this in the hosts with a gold card in heads and tails), and the prices are ordinary, in some places even lower than in ordinary Czech restaurants »

Among connoisseurs, Prague is considered the world capital of beer. It is impossible to visit here and not appreciate the merits of the popular drink. It is everywhere, it is drunk by almost everyone, at any time, in any quantity, without fear of the pangs of a "hangover".

A large army of fans has long established the fact: beer from Czech producers never hurts.

Czechs opened their first brewery in 1087. And for almost a thousand years, this drink has been the personification of a calm and measured life in abundance. Saint Wenceslas is considered the patron saint of brewers; it was he who was addressed with prayer and blessing when opening a new variety or production. XIII-XV centuries were the most difficult in the history of national brewing. It was so popular that a political decision was made at the state level: the factories should be at least a mile apart from each other. Violation of this decree was quickly punished, and inept brewers were severely punished. Manufacturers regularly tasted competitors' products, and if the drink did not satisfy their biased taste, it was poured on the square, and its "author" was beaten with rods. Over the past centuries, beer has not ceased to be a symbol of the country, in the capital there are bars and restaurants on every corner. Their number is so great that a guide to the most famous beer halls in Prague will not hurt not only an inexperienced person, but also an experienced traveler. So let's call the rating list

8 best beer bars and restaurants in Prague

Interior of the beer house "U Fleku"
1499 - opening of the U Fleku brewery

U Fleku is the most famous Prague pub, and the brewery of the same name, which was opened in the distant 15th century and is working properly in our time. The focus here is on an exclusive dark thick beer with a caramel flavor. It is impossible to remain indifferent to him! The halls of this restaurant have “speaking” names: “Liver sausage”, “Suitcase”, “Bolshoi” and others. Naturally, apart from beer, you can also taste amazing Czech cuisine. An orchestra is playing in the garden, the interior sends back several centuries ... Unforgettable impressions!

Once here, you should definitely order a mug of "Brannik" and fully feel the mysteriously exciting atmosphere of this cellar.

Dear Readers! There is a suspicion that St. Thomas's brewery was closed. If you have time, go there and ask what happened to her at the moment. Don't forget to write in the comments

The same oak table, music, a portrait of Franz Joseph I, furniture of the same times and, of course, the excellent Pilsen beer "Idle", sipping which it is so pleasant to speak "for life." Luciano Pavarotti also did not miss the opportunity to drink Pilsner beer. Thanks to the benevolent attention of famous people, it is better to book places. They say that you can even meet the President of the Czech Republic at a long table with a mug of Pilsen. When you come here, you should definitely order a mug from the Pilsen Urquell. The service is brought to mind-blowing perfection. The waiters will certainly offer a bittersweet Budweiser. We continue our story about Prague. Today Vitya will advise where to drink beer and have a tasty meal, and also tell you what is unusual to see in Prague, without dragging around the numerous museums and architectural monuments.

I am sure that the majority of readers associate Prague with beer. Therefore, I will begin my story with him. I will not sing laudatory odes to this drink, I will just agree that beer flows like a river here. However, this probably applies to the whole Czech Republic. In all three parts of this wonderful country, where I have been, not a single dinner, not a single conversation was made without a foamy drink.

Breweries.

Naturally, in the capital of the Czech Republic there are countless places where you can go, so I will only tell you about some of the places I have been to and which I liked.
I'd like to point out right away that beer is very cheap here, even within the city center. But this only applies to promoted manufacturers. I, however, consider the use for the main purpose of some gold-seed or a similar product in Prague as sacrilege. Therefore, we will focus primarily on breweries.
Brewery "Three Roses" is located almost in the very center of the city (Husova 10/232)... Here you can taste 6 types of beer. Photos of the range and prices in May 2015, but you can check on the official website: http://www.u3r.cz/ru/.

Despite the proximity to the center and good May weather, the place turned out to be deserted, so my colleague and I decided to stop by. And for good reason. We enjoyed the peace, tranquility and delicious fresh beer.

Even Pica could not resist and got out of the backpack.

By the way, in the spring of 2016 the opening of the second brewery was announced.
Another brewery I visited, Novomestskiy brewery (Vodičkova 20).

Here you will taste a real Czech sunbed and watch the fermentation process from the hall or by taking a guided tour. You can find all the necessary information on the official website of the brewery: http://www.npivovar.cz

Three types of beer are offered. In addition to the widespread light-colored lounger, you can also try its darker variety. There is also carbonated beer, but I haven't tried it. In general, even if you do not have a company, you still come in. There is always someone to drink with.

The third brewery I visited is called U Fleku (Křemencova 11)... Official website: http://ru.ufleku.cz/.

Of all three, it is the most expensive; only one variety is brewed, a dark lounger. It should be noted that the beer is good and the taste is quite interesting. In addition, it has its own unique atmosphere: common tables, a peasant with an accordion, tincture as a bonus.

You can go out into the garden to breathe.

Where to drink beer.

For those who want more movement, merge with the crowd or drink beer, I advise you to look into the Museum (Dlouhá 46).

There is a huge selection of beer from small Czech producers, each variety is listed in the menu according to composition, color and taste. There were a lot of people both times.

The second pub has recently opened (Náměstí Míru, Americká 341/43, Prague 2)... For more information, please visit http://www.praguebeermuseum.com/.
If you want a little quieter, then it is better to look into the Mlýnská kavárna tavern (Všehrdova 449/14), located near the Chertovka canal. You can grab a beer and get out on the benches in the park.

Where to eat.

To my great regret, I did not find a place where delicious beer and tasty, inexpensive food would complement each other. Maybe this is right and you need to separate the flies from the cutlets and enjoy one thing.

On the advice of my colleague, who has been to Prague many times, we often ate at Restoracy u Knihovny (Velislavinova, 10)... Highly recommend. From the pros: close to the center, but I have never seen tourists in 5-6 visits, cheap and tasty food. The beer, however, is ordinary.

And, of course, I'm sure no one will pass by street food. Most of the pavilions are located on Wenceslas Square, which looks more like a street, as well as the central square

Unusual sights.

Once you are full and drunk, Prague will feel completely different. Riders will ride an inverted horse:

Suddenly they will start dancing at home:

Little men are crawling around the TV tower:

Then you will find yourself on a similar person:

And the Hare Krishnas will become your friends:

Eventually, you will want to be a part of the fountain composition and join the pissing men.

This fountain is worth mentioning separately. In addition to the fact that men write on the map of the Czech Republic, their main elements, namely pipis, change direction, thereby drawing out the sayings of famous Prague residents with fountains. You can try on the role of a writer by sending an SMS to the number indicated next to the fountain (+420 724 370 770). After a while, men will try to reproduce your saying.
Among all this disgrace, visit some more memorable and interesting places. From the street Pařížská the Metronome is clearly visible, which is placed instead of the monument to Stalin and symbolizes the time that changes everything.

The narrowest street in Prague has no name. A traffic light has been installed for the passage of pedestrians. Take a walk on U Lužického semináře and you will definitely find it.

The building on Wenceslas Square, from the balcony of which, during the Velvet Revolution, the playwright, dissident and former political prisoner Vaclav Havel performed:

On the same square near the museum, you will find a memorial plaque in honor of the students who burned themselves in protest against the introduction of Soviet troops.

For Belarusians, the building of the National Library ( Mariánské nám. five), on the wall of which there is a memorial plaque to Skaryne:

If after all this you still do not want to sleep and want nightlife, then take a walk along Wenceslas Square or the main square. Offers exceed demand, so you will be presented with various entertainment programs, and in different languages, including Russian. On the advice of experienced people, I just brushed aside the annoying barkers. This is not for you. Although this is a completely different story.

And the Czech Republic as a whole is rightfully considered one of the world centers of brewing. The first brewery was opened by the Czechs in 1087. In the year of the opening of Charles University in 1348, almost four dozen breweries were already operating in Prague. By the 15th century, their number had increased to fifty. In the future, their number only increased. The break was observed only in the 16th century, when due to the lack of bread, brewing had to be banned for a while.

Residents of the capital of the Czech Republic drink beer always, everywhere in large quantities. This is understandable, because the beer in local bars is one of the most delicious in the world. Millions of tourists from all over the world go to the capital of the Czech Republic not only to see the many sights, but also to taste this divine drink.

There are so many beer establishments in Prague that it is difficult to say which one is the most popular or should be visited first. ... Today, continuing the theme, we present the TOP-5 Prague Beer Restaurants, which we recommend to visit in 2016. The rating was compiled on the basis of feedback from users of the 100 Roads Internet portal.

1.

The Brewery House is located in the center of Prague, close to Wenceslas Square. This pub is a popular place among tourists, however, the prices here are affordable. The waiters speak Russian and there is a Russian menu. And, of course, the main thing is why you need to go to the Brewery House - live and fresh beer that is brewed right on the spot.

There are a lot of beers on offer. In addition to the standard varieties, there are also exotic ones: coffee, cherry, banana. For those who want to try everything, there is a carousel on the menu - a spinner with small glasses of beer of all sorts. The cuisine at the Brewery House is good, the food is delicious and the food is served quickly. There are many light snacks as well as traditional Czech dishes. Please note that smoking is prohibited in the Brewery House. Also, due to the huge popularity of the institution, it is better to book a table in advance.

Novomestský pivovar is located in the center of Prague, 400 meters from Wenceslas Square, it was opened in 1993. However, despite the youth of the establishment, the beer that is brewed here is time-tested. The recipe was known as early as the 14th century. For some time the recipe was lost, but local brewers managed to restore it and now you can again feel the unique taste of beer.

Beer is brewed here using only Czech raw materials. The light and dark beer that Novomestsky brewer offers to its visitors is an unfiltered, 11% beer served directly from the fermentor, without preservatives, rich in B vitamins and other nutrients.

Novomestskiy pivovar is a large restaurant with three floors going underground. The halls are small, each in its own style (from Gothic to modern), they are united along the perimeter by a narrow labyrinth. In order not to get lost, it is necessary to take to the right all the time and walk, as it were, in a circle. By the way, a small brewery is located here. The cauldrons of beer are right in front of your eyes, so you can contemplate the whole process.

And, like in most Czech bars, you can have a great meal in Novomestský pivovar, the institution is famous for making dishes of classic Czech cuisine: Veprís knee, dumplings, goose baked according to an old Czech recipe, homemade smoked meats and much more.

Kozel beer is one of the visiting cards of the Czech Republic, so every tourist should visit the U kozla branded bar. The institution is located in Prague in the Zizkov district and most of the visitors are Czechs. Nevertheless, the waiters understand Russian, there is a Russian menu.
