Modeling is one of the most rewarding activities for babies. With its help, not only fine motor skills of the hands develops, but also perseverance, imaginative thinking and coordination of movements are developed.

One of the best materials for sculpting with your child is salt dough. It is completely safe, does not contain harmful additives and is easy to use. Crafts made from salt dough with your own hands will become wonderful souvenirs for your relatives and friends.

Universal recipes

You can find a great variety of salt dough recipes. Each master adds his own additives to them, selecting the desired consistency. The main products for kneading dough are salt, flour and water.

Depending on the purpose, its density may be different:

  • dense dough - for large parts and creating massive panels;
  • universal dough of medium consistency - it is convenient to make small pictures and figures from it;
  • soft dough - delicate and pliable, suitable for small items, exquisite flowers and figurines.
Some needlewomen measure ingredients in grams, others prefer to use proportions in parts.

Thick dough

For work you will need:
  1. wheat flour - 1 part;
  2. edible salt - 1 part;
  3. water - 0.7 parts.

That is, to knead this type of dough, you need to take one identical measure (glass, cup, tablespoon) of salt and flour and 0.7 of the same measure of water.

Combine dry ingredients in a deep bowl and add cold water little by little. The dough should be smooth and very firm. Grains of salt will remain in it - this is normal, do not worry. Depending on the moisture content and quality of flour and salt, a little more or less water may be needed. Therefore, you cannot pour it into the dough all at once.

Medium dough (universal)

For work you will need:
  1. wheat flour - 1 part;
  2. water - 1 part;
  3. edible salt - ½ part;
  4. finely ground salt (extra) - ½ part.
By replacing half of the coarse salt with fine salt, this type of dough turns out to be more plastic and pliable. It is convenient to sculpt even a child from such an obedient mass. But for the smallest details and realistic crafts, such a dough is also not suitable.

Soft dough

For work you will need:
  1. wheat flour - 1 part;
  2. hot water - 1/4 part;
  3. finely ground salt (extra) - 1 part;
  4. pVA glue - ¾ part.
Combine salt and flour, then add thick PVA glue and stir. Pouring in hot water little by little, knead a soft dough. It must be wrapped in plastic wrap, allowed to rest and cool.

This dough is ideal for tricky work. It perfectly holds its shape, preserving the prints and texture created on it. Its quality directly depends on the quality of the selected glue.

Figurines sculpted from salt dough with glue differ special durability. They will delight their owner for more than one year.

  1. If you plan to dye finished products, it is better to use wheat flour, although rye flour can also be used for salty dough.
  2. Do not take iodized salt - the finished figurines may crack when dried.
  3. The dough can be dyed even during kneading. For this, food colors or watercolors are used.
  4. The finished dough must be wrapped in plastic wrap or plastic bag to prevent it from drying out.
  5. Unsuccessful dough can be reanimated. Add a little more flour to the liquid one and knead it again, the too tight dough is moistened with water and kneaded, achieving the desired consistency.
  6. Do not add grease or hand cream to the dough you intend to dye from - the paint will not lay evenly.
  7. The finished dough should be stored in the refrigerator for no more than 2 days. It loses its qualities and it will be inconvenient to work with it.
  8. It is best to sculpt bulky products on wire or cardboard frames so that they do not fall apart.
  9. Crafts can be dried naturally by leaving them for a couple of days, baked in a warm oven, or left next to a battery. It is categorically not recommended to put figures on the battery itself in order to avoid their cracking.
  10. It is best to paint crafts with acrylic paint or gouache. Do not use watercolors: there is a risk of soaking and ruining the product.
  11. The junction of the parts must be moistened with water using a brush. So they will connect firmly and quickly.
  12. The finished souvenir can be coated with colorless nail polish or acrylic varnish. This will protect it from moisture and the paint from fading.
Armed with your new knowledge, try putting it into practice.

Happy child 13.09.2017

Dear readers, many of us have children and grandchildren who love creativity. And it's wonderful. We offer children paints and pencils, felt-tip pens and plasticine. And more and more often in children's development centers, kindergartens and schools, instead of plasticine, they use salted dough for modeling. Stationery and baby product makers quickly caught the wave and put dozens of types of salt dough on store shelves. How it never happens! And colored, and just white, and shiny.

Of course, you can buy a ready-made color test set. But it is quite realistic and completely easy to make it yourself, at home, because flour and salt will certainly be found in the kitchen of any housewife. Today on the blog, the head of the column, Anna Kutyavina, has prepared for you an excellent selection of salt dough recipes for modeling. I give Anya the floor.

Hello dear readers of Irina's blog! Modeling with plastic materials is a very useful activity for little ones. After all, it not only develops fine motor skills of the hands, but helps the child to master spatial thinking, textures, colors and shapes. In addition, children often feel like real creators of something new and significant while sculpting.

The modern industry offers a large selection of plasticine for modeling. But now I would like to talk about salt dough as a good alternative to purchased plasticine. Its main advantage is safety. Due to the fact that salted dough is made only from safe ingredients - flour, salt, water, high quality food colors - it is an ideal option for the first creative experiences of the baby. After all, if a child pulls a piece of plasticine into his mouth, this, to put it mildly, will not be useful for him. And from salty dough, in which case, there will be no harm.

Plus, salty dough can be made quickly and easily at home. The ingredients are very readily available in every kitchen, and the recipes are so simple that they don't even require any significant effort. But what a wide field for creativity!

Benefits of Salted Modeling Dough

Modeling dough is a mass similar to ordinary plasticine. But, unlike the usual hard pieces of colored plasticine, salty dough:

  • much softer and more pleasant to the touch;
  • does not stick to hands;
  • does not stain hands and clothes;
  • does not have an unpleasant odor;
  • does not cause allergic reactions;
  • safe in mouth, but at the same time tasteless - the child can taste it, but immediately spit it out and lose interest in it.

Types of dough for modeling

Creative teachers and moms and dads came up with a lot of salt dough recipes:

  • classic salted dough;
  • cooked in the microwave;
  • brewed over a fire;
  • glowing in the dark;
  • with starch;
  • with the addition of glycerin, citric acid, vegetable oil, spices, baby cream and even wallpaper glue.

The structure of the resulting dough can be affected by the temperature of the water, the quality of the flour, the amount of ingredients. So if suddenly the first time it turned out not quite what you expected - it doesn't matter, try again. Many mothers share that they interfere with the mixture by eye, and it turns out wonderfully.

Features of cooking salt dough

In order for the dough to be successful, several important points must be considered. Firstly, it is better to take only ordinary flour, wheat, other types - pancake, with different additives - are not suitable.

Secondly, fine salt is more suitable, "Extra". Large grains of salt can make crafts look messy. Although there are recipes with coarse salt.

Thirdly, it is best to use cold water, even ice cold. To make the dough more plastic, potato starch is added to it. And to increase the strength of the material in the recipe, PVA glue diluted in water is used. To obtain a quality dough, it must be intensively kneaded by hand.

High-quality dough is soft, dense, elastic, it does not crumble or stick to hands, it has a uniform color.

You can paint the dough either immediately during kneading, or then paint the finished craft. You can dye both with special food colors, and independently created from cocoa, carrot or beet juice, coffee. The dried product is then painted with gouache.

The finished material for modeling is wrapped in a bag and kept in the refrigerator for a couple of hours. It is permissible to use the dough within a month if stored in the cold.

How to make salted modeling dough - recipes

We will now consider the most reliable and at the same time uncomplicated dough recipes. In addition, the smaller the child, the easier the dough should be - it is better to refrain from complex recipes with "inedible" ingredients. Let's look at recipes for salt dough for beginners step by step.

Classic salty

Any crafts can be made from such material, it is safe and very simple.

Ingredients:

  • white flour - 200 g;
  • fine salt "Extra" - 200 g;
  • chilled water - 125 ml.

You need to add salt to the flour and mix well. Then pour water into the dry mixture in small portions, stirring all the time, in order to end up with a homogeneous and smooth mass. It is also important to monitor the consistency of the dough - it should not be very runny.

Second classic recipe

This recipe is very popular among both experienced craftsmen and beginners in sculpting.

  • white flour - 300 g;
  • salt - 300 g;
  • cool water - 200 ml.

A lot of dough is obtained from this number of components. If you are not planning large volumes of crafts, you can reduce the amount of ingredients by 2-4 times.

Salt mass in the microwave

You can quickly prepare the modeling dough in the microwave.

  • water - two parts of water;
  • coarse white or rye flour - two parts;
  • fine salt - one part;
  • tartar - 1 tbsp. l .;

Ingredients:

  • water - 1 cup;
  • flour - 1 cup;
  • salt - 0.3 cups;
  • soda - 2 tsp;
  • vegetable oil - 1 tsp;
  • food coloring.

Pour soda, salt and flour into a container, pour in water with vegetable oil. Then put the pot on low heat and heat for a few minutes.

Add color and mix well. As soon as the dough starts to stick to the spoon, turn it off, it's ready. Put it on a plate and let cool. Then knead well with your hands.

Such a quick dough is famous for another feature - if you follow the storage rules, keep it in the refrigerator, the mixture retains its properties for several months.

Elastic dough

This recipe produces a very flexible material that is easy to work with.

Ingredients:

  • wheat flour - 1.5 cups;
  • water - 1.5 cups;
  • salt - 2 cups.

Mix dry ingredients and pour in water little by little until the mixture becomes plastic and homogeneous. Crafts from such a test will be durable and aesthetic.

Coarse salt dough

There will be quite a lot of such material, so if you need a small portion, you should reduce the volume of the components several times. The composition is the same as in the classic dough, only coarse salt is taken instead of fine.

Ingredients:

  • coarse salt - 300 g;
  • wheat flour - 300 g;
  • water - 200 ml (1 glass).

  • salt - 400 g;
  • ice water - 1.5 cups.

Dissolve the salt in water. Pour in the sifted flour little by little. Knead the dough.

Ingredients:

  • flour - 1.5 cups;
  • water - 1.5 cups;
  • salt - 1 glass;
  • glycerin - 4 tbsp. l .;
  • dry wallpaper glue or PVA - 2 tbsp. l.

Drying salt dough at home

The prepared figurines must be dried well. This can be done outdoors, outdoors or indoors where a fresh air stream circulates. This drying option is the most economical.

It is best to dry your crafts in the sun. The thicker the product, the longer it will take to dry. The color after hardening of the craft will not change.

The second drying option is the oven. For a couple of days, the products are dried in the fresh air, then the oven is heated up to 50 ˚С. It is necessary to cover the baking sheet with paper, lay out the crafts and dry, increasing the temperature to a maximum of 140 ˚С. Drying at 50 ° C takes about 3 hours, at 140 - half an hour. But you should not set the maximum temperature right away - the products may crack.

If the figures are still cracked, you can fix it with a mixture of PVA glue and ordinary flour, filling the cracks with a thin brush.

To understand if the product is dry, you just need to knock on it. A dull sound indicates that the figurine is still damp, and a ringing sound indicates that it is already finished.

How to arrange crafts

Finished figures are painted with paints. Better to take acrylic - they do not paint the skin, do not smudge and dry quickly. You can paint with gouache mixed with PVA glue, and even watercolors. Or you can just leave the products in their original form.

When sculpting, you can use various decorative elements: beads, buttons, threads, ribbons, small shells, cereals and pasta. If the product is cracked after staining, you can dry it in the fresh air, then eliminate the imperfections with sandpaper and paint again.

Varnish coating can protect the craft from defects. Also, this measure will prevent paint fading and preserve the aesthetics of things for a long time. Liquid varnish will make the craft blush and give it a natural shine. Thick will reliably protect against moisture, make the surface of the product matte or shiny. Spray varnish protects the surface from damage and makes it brighter.

Salt dough crafts

Now I invite you to see what kind of crafts you can do with your children. Photos of such crafts were sent to us by Anya Pavlovsky. The tools you need for creativity

In addition to the fact that you need to learn how to make salty dough for modeling, it is also important to prepare the necessary tools and a set of accessories:

  • a small rolling pin or a bottle of water (you can't go anywhere without it!);
  • sculpting board;
  • a knife;
  • a rod from a ballpoint pen (for creating holes and patterns);
  • brush;
  • container with water;
  • curly cookie cutters;
  • buttons, beads, rings, lace, etc. for making prints;
  • paints.

All this will be useful to you for creative work with the test.

Basic drying methods

When the product is ready, it must be properly dried. There are several methods. Let's consider the most popular ones.

Method 1 - In the oven (preheated)

Drying in a slightly open oven at a temperature of 55-80 ° C (the craft is placed in a preheated oven). Place the product on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or in a heat-resistant container. The process can take about an hour or longer, depending on the size of the figurine.

Method 2 - Natural conditions

This refers to drying in the open air (but not in direct sunlight). This method takes longer than the first, but is more efficient. The product is best placed on a wooden or plastic surface. Air drying takes about 3-4 days. But we do not recommend drying on a battery - this can lead to the fact that the craft will crack and crumble.

Method 3 - Oven (cold)

According to this method, crafts made from salted dough should be placed in a cold oven and only then turned on, eventually heating up to 150 ° C. In the same place, the products should also cool down while the oven cools down.

Unpainted dough figurines are attractive in themselves. However, after drying, they can be painted with gouache, watercolors or acrylics. They are good because they dry quickly, do not smudge and do not leave marks on your hands.

Dyeing methods:

  1. Stir the watercolors with a brush with some water and apply to the product so that they do not spread.
  2. Mix the gouache with PVA glue, evenly cover the craft with this mixture.
  3. You can give the dough a certain color even while kneading. Divide it into parts - there should be as many of them as you need to paint in shades. Roll balls out of them, make a depression in the middle of each and add a couple of drops of food coloring diluted in water there. After that, knead the dough so that it is colored evenly.

Salted dough sculpting also allows you to use various elements for decoration. It can be cereals, pasta, buttons, shells, beads, all kinds of threads and ribbons. The scope for imagination is unlimited!

What is varnishing for?

Finished products are varnished so that the paint does not fade and does not wash off, and the appearance of the work does not deteriorate over time. Varnishing is used when necessary and exclusively at the request of the author.

You can add shine to the product with varnish:

  • liquid - they need to cover the product in several layers, the result is rosy and natural;
  • thick - it better protects the craft from moisture, you can use both a lacquer that gives a mirror shine, and a matte one.

It is preferable to use an aerosol varnish. A single application is enough for the colors to sparkle, and the work becomes protected from damage.

Although, practice shows that proper drying does not even allow you to resort to varnishing - the product will retain its original appearance for many years.

Possible problems and solutions

Here is a list of problems that can arise when drying or decorating a toy from salt dough:

  1. The dough is covered with bubbles or cracks after drying. This can be caused by the wrong choice of flour or failure to follow the drying rules. The simplest and most inexpensive flour is suitable for modeling - low-grade rye or wheat. And the product should be dried without unnecessary haste in a slightly preheated oven with the door ajar. In general, it is better if the craft dries naturally.
  2. The product is cracked after staining. This can happen if you start painting the craft that is not yet dry enough. Air dry it, smooth out the roughness with sandpaper and re-paint.
  3. The product is cracked due to its great thickness. In this case, the excess dough must be removed from the back or bottom. And in order for a large product to dry evenly in the oven, it must be periodically turned over.
  4. An element has broken off. You can try to glue it with PVA glue, but it's better to just smooth out the unevenness and decorate it with some kind of decoration.
  5. The craft faded after staining. Additional varnish coating can return the color to its former saturation and make the craft brighter.

Salt dough crafts

According to some assumptions, the first dough moldings were used by chefs to decorate baked goods. Today, anything can be sculpted from such a wonderful material: pictures, souvenir figures, and toys.

So, when you already know how to make salty dough, let's start creating, in fact, crafts from it.

2015 is the year of the wooden sheep, so the most relevant souvenir is the salted dough sheep. We offer you MK for making such a figurine.

Do you want something interesting?

You will need:

  • fine table salt;
  • wheat flour;
  • cold water;
  • foil;
  • brush;
  • whitewash;
  • gouache;
  • black marker.

Step-by-step sequence of actions:

  1. Combine flour and fine salt in equal proportions, add a little water.
  2. Knead elastic dough and send it to chill in the refrigerator for two hours.
  3. After this time, you can start sculpting. We sculpt 4 balls from salted dough. These will be the legs of a lamb. Place them as shown in the picture.
  4. Roll up a piece of foil and place it in the dough. Then a ball must be rolled out of the cake - this is the body of a lamb, it must be laid on top of its legs.
  5. Now, from the pieces of dough, mold the head, curl horns, ears and eyes.
  6. To get something like curly sheep's wool, roll up many small balls and place them evenly on the back of our animal.
  7. The workpiece is ready. It remains to place it in an oven preheated to the minimum temperature. The lamb should dry thoroughly without cracking. At a temperature of 50 ° C, it will take about 3 hours for drying and another half an hour for cooling.
  8. Then cover the entire surface of the figurine with white. Wait for them to dry completely.
  9. Color the lamb with gouache. And with the help of a permanent marker, you can draw eyelashes, a mouth, outline the horns and other details as you wish.
  10. Finish with a varnish on the lamb. Varnish will add shine and smoothness to the craft, giving the craft a finished look.

Testoplasty allows you to create not only small volumetric souvenirs, but also whole pictures from salt dough. Of course, creating them will require some skill, patience and perseverance. However, the result can exceed all expectations, becoming a wonderful gift for loved ones or decoration of the interior of your home.

We act in stages:

  1. The creation of a picture, like any other dough crafts, begins with the preparation of the dough itself. There are many different variations of recipes, but the most popular is this: 1 tbsp. finely ground salts, 2 tbsp. flour, 200 ml of water. Knead an elastic, salty craft dough, wrap it in a plastic bag, and refrigerate it for a couple of hours.
  2. Take out the finished material and you can start creating, pinching off a piece of dough from the bag (it quickly becomes covered with a crust in the air).
  3. Use water instead of glue to connect the parts together.
  4. It is most convenient to create a picture on foil. It is imperative to dry the result: in the oven or in the air.
  5. When the craft is dry, paint it with gouache and cover with two coats of varnish.
  6. Finally, attach the painting to canvas or any other framed fabric.

All sorts of cats, birds, snowmen, bears, dachshunds, flowers and much more look very beautiful. You can create pictures based on the plot of a particular fairy tale - this will be especially interesting for children. You can see some examples of works for inspiration in the pictures.

Symbolic figurines-mukosolki

Salted dough is a great alternative to clay... And crafts made from it can become a unique decoration for your home or an original idea for a gift. It has long been believed that the mukosolka in the house is a symbol of prosperity and family well-being.

Regardless of what kind of figures you plan to make, the dough for them can be prepared according to one of the recipes above.

  1. Roll out the dough with a rolling pin until it is 0.5 cm thick.
  2. Make prints of any cookie cutters on this sheet. These are future salt dough figurines.
  3. Turn on the oven and line the baking sheet with baking paper.
  4. Use a wooden spatula or just your hands to transfer the figurines to the baking sheet.
  5. Use a cocktail tube or a toothpick to make a hole in each of the figures so that you can thread a thread through it and hang the figures on, say, a Christmas tree (or hang them around the house).
  6. Bake items in the oven at the lowest temperature for several hours.
  7. Transfer them to a flat surface and let cool.
  8. Color the toys as you like.

Here are some more examples of mukosolki design, which are easy to make, but look amazing!

  1. Each recipe for salty dough for crafts involves the use of exclusively wheat or rye flour (but definitely not pancake) and finely ground salt (not iodized, since the dough will not turn out to be homogeneous, but with large intersperses).
  2. Use very cold water for mixing. Add it in portions, kneading the dough carefully. Depending on the flour you choose, you may need a different amount of water.
  3. The dough should not stick to your hands or crumble. If it doesn't stick well, add a little water, and if it sticks, add a little flour.
  4. Salted dough is perfectly stored in the refrigerator in a plastic bag or in a container with a tight-fitting lid. Use it piece by piece as needed, because the finished dough in the air quickly becomes covered with a dry crust, which spoils the appearance of the products. The shelf life of the test is 1 week.
  5. Crafts made from small elements look sleeker. To make the parts stick well to each other, moisten the joints with water using a brush.
  6. To tint the dough itself, add a little food coloring (for Easter eggs) diluted in water. You can create new shades from the dough of different colors: just crush the colored pieces with your fingers.

Testoplasty is not just children's fun, but also a correctional lesson that allows you to develop fine motor skills of the hands, perseverance and imagination of babies, bringing up an aesthetic taste. And for adults, it's a great way to express yourself and rejuvenate. We wish you inspiration, and let your creativity be only a joy!

Salty dough

Have you ever heard of salt dough modeling? Not? Then you have come to the right place. After all, it is here that we can tell you a lot of interesting things and explain how exactly this is done. When you look at the end result, it seems that doing all this is very easy, but in fact, this process is not so simple. It, just like any other kind of needlework, has its own secrets and little tricks.

First, there is the dough. You can learn how to do it correctly from our materials. Secondly, the dough is not the only item that we need when sculpting; we also need to stock up on a rolling pin, a pointed stick or pencil, scissors and a knife. Thirdly, in order for the product not to deform and look beautiful, it must be properly dried, painted with paints, and then varnished on top.

Modeling dough is a mass that resembles plasticine, but softer, does not stick, does not stain, does not have a pungent smell and does not cause allergies. How to make salted sculpting dough at home? The best homemade dough is made with salt, flour, and cold water.

Working with plastic mass is incredibly fun and rewarding for developing fine motor skills. This helps to activate the points of the brain responsible for coordination of movements, object actions and speech. And these are far from all the advantages of a modeling test, it is:

  • Increases perseverance.
  • Develops logic and creative thinking.
  • Improves concentration and perception.
  • Develops the ability to work with small objects and helps in mastering the subtleties of manipulation.

Every mother can make a healthy mass, because the technique is not much different from making dough for dumplings. In this article I will consider the most popular recipes. I'll start with the classics, and later switch to more complex options.

Classic Salted Modeling Dough Recipe

I propose a classic recipe for salted modeling dough, using the simplest ingredients found in every kitchen. It is incredibly popular with experienced craftsmen, people with little experience, and newbies.

Ingredients:

  • Flour - 300 g.
  • Salt - 300 g.
  • Water - 200 ml.

Preparation:

  1. Pour salt into a deep container, add some of the water. I advise you not to use all the liquid at once, since in each case the moisture content of the flour is different.
  2. After dissolving the salt, add the sifted flour. Knead in a bowl first. Once a lump has formed, transfer the mass to a work surface and finish the process. Add water gradually to increase plasticity.
  3. Place the finished dough in a plastic bag and send to the refrigerator. After two to three hours, the salt mass is ready for use.

Video recipe

Quite a lot of salt dough is obtained from these proportions. If large crafts are not planned, cut the amount of ingredients in half or four times. If the mass remains, store it in film in the refrigerator, as the mass for slime is stored. In this form, it retains its original qualities for a month.

How to make dough in 5 minutes

If crafts made from salt dough have become a family hobby, I recommend arm yourself with a recipe, thanks to which you will make another portion of elastic mass at home in 5 minutes.

Ingredients:

  • Flour - 1 cup
  • Water - 1 cup
  • Soda - 2 teaspoons.
  • Salt - 0.3 cups
  • Vegetable oil - 1 teaspoon.
  • Food coloring.

Preparation:

  1. Pour a mixture of salt, soda and flour into a small saucepan, add water along with vegetable oil. Place the container on low heat and heat for a few minutes, stirring regularly. Add color and stir.
  2. Watch the thickness of the dough. If it sticks to the spoon, you're done. Place on a plate to cool. After that, knead thoroughly with your hands.
  3. Store salted dough in a bag or food container or it will dry out. If the mass is dry, do not be discouraged. Add some water and mash.

Video preparation

Another advantage of quick salt dough is that it has a long shelf life. Subject to all the rules, the dough retains its properties for several months. You won't be bored with this material.

Starch-Free Glycerin Recipe

Some craftsmen cover the surface with a layer of varnish to make their crafts shine. But such a result can be achieved without the help of paints and varnishes, because there is glycerin, which is sold in all pharmacies.

Ingredients:

  1. Boiling water - 2 glasses.
  2. Flour - 400 g.
  3. Glycerin - 0.5 teaspoon.
  4. Sunflower oil - 2 tablespoons.
  5. Tartar - 2 tablespoons.
  6. Fine salt - 100 g.
  7. Dye.

Preparation:

  1. Make the base. Combine tartar, vegetable oil, salt and flour in a small container.
  2. In a small saucepan, bring water to a boil. Pour in the flour base, add dye and glycerin. Cook until a homogeneous consistency is obtained.
  3. Cool the resulting composition and knead thoroughly. Add flour if necessary.

Having made a figurine from dough without starch, you will see that it has a pleasant shine. This craft will be a wonderful gift for mom on March 8 or a friend for her birthday.

How to make flour-free modeling dough

The highlight of this plastic mass is the absence of flour in the composition. The technology for making salted modeling dough is suitable for craftsmen who do not like working with a white, quick-moving ingredient.

Ingredients:

  • Starch - 1 cup
  • Baking soda - 2 cups
  • Water - 0.5 cups.
  • Natural food coloring.

Preparation:

  1. In a deep bowl, combine the starch and baking soda. While stirring the mixture, pour in water in a trickle.
  2. Place the container with ingredients on low heat and cook until a ball forms.
  3. Put the cooled mass on a floured surface and knead. The dough is ready.

There is no flour in this dough, but it is great for sculpting. Use this easy-to-make plastic material to create a variety of shapes that showcase your talent to others.

What can be made from salt dough - examples of crafts

We examined the technology for preparing salt dough for modeling. It's time to use the salty material in your work. If you are a beginner, I recommend starting with the simplest figures. Over time, having gained valuable experience, switch to more complex crafts.

Experienced craftsmen make various figures and compositions from salted dough. The result depends only on imagination. In this part of the article, I will give some good examples with step-by-step manufacturing instructions. They will help even children learn the basics.

Mushroom

  1. To create a hat, roll a small ball and crush slightly on one side.
  2. Make a sausage. Press down slightly on one side when rolling. Get a leg.
  3. It remains to collect the figurine. Use a toothpick to improve reliability.
  4. After the dough dries, color the mushroom as desired.

Beads

  • Roll several dozen equal-sized and even balls out of the dough. Place the balls on toothpicks.
  • Leave the balls outdoors for a few days to dry. I advise you to turn the beads several times a day.
  • Gently remove the toothpicks from the dried balls. String the beads onto a ribbon or string. For a more beautiful piece, paint the beads with markers.

Christmas decorations

  1. Roll the salted dough into a layer. Using a cardboard stencil or cookie cutter, extrude the shapes.
  2. Use a cocktail tube to make holes in the figures. Dry the dough.
  3. It remains to decorate the Christmas tree decorations and pass a beautiful ribbon through the hole.

rose flower

  • Make a cone out of a small amount of dough.
  • Roll a small ball and roll into a cake. Attach the piece to the cone.
  • Attach a similar element on the opposite side. You will get a bud.
  • Roll some balls and make petals. Attach to the flower in a circle.
  • Bend the upper edges of the petals slightly back, and press the sides.
  • After the dough has dried, paint the figurine in scarlet.

Jigsaw puzzles

  1. Make a large stencil out of cardboard, such as a cat. Roll out the dough into a layer. Using a stencil, cut out a large figurine. Leave the dough overnight to dry.
  2. Use a sharp knife to cut the cat figurine into fragments. Wait until it dries completely.
  3. Use markers or gouache to paint the craft. Once dry, coat each piece with a layer of clear varnish.

Video examples of figurines

As you can see, salted dough is ideal for creating simple and complex shapes and compositions. And these are just a few ideas. With the help of your imagination, you can create a variety of toys, jewelry, souvenirs and other crafts.

In conclusion, I will share the secrets of experienced craftsmen who will make working with the material more productive and the result more impressive.
