About the benefits of peas for a child

Consider yourself lucky if the baby pea soup was to your liking, because pea is very useful. Its use is in the high content of vegetable protein, which will successfully replace animal protein, however, for full conversion into protein, it still needs the support of grain or meat. Nevertheless, pea dishes are indispensable for children with low weight - peas are very nutritious.

But not only protein is valuable peas. It also contains a lot of useful substances and vitamins, as well as fiber. It is insoluble fiber that causes flatulence and gastrointestinal problems.

They can be avoided by thorough grinding to a puree state (the puree is more homogeneous and tender, the body is easier to cope with coarse fiber). Which we did.

Peas go well not only with cereals and meat, but also with vegetables, such as potatoes, tomatoes, carrots and herbs. By the way, if your child does not eat carrots, then peas will perfectly mask the taste of carrots, so the baby will eat and will not notice.

Pamper your beloved child is not only pleasant on the tongue, but also a healthy dish, full of important elements and vitamins - this is the desire of every caring mother. Legumes and dishes prepared from them, in addition to the obvious benefits, are also very nutritious, because they must be present in the diet of the child.

Pea soup is one of the most eye-catching dishes in a category that has been familiar to everyone since childhood. But in order to introduce such a soup into his menu without harm to the baby, it is necessary to know at what age, in what volume to give and how to cook it properly, to make it delicious and instill in the child a love for beans.

Peas are full of vitamins, protein and other elements that contribute to the growth and strengthening of the body. It activates the development of all systems, protects against harmful bacteria.

At what age can pea soup be given to children?

Parents often worry about exactly when to give their child pea soup. Many claim that after the first feeding has been carried out and the baby is ready to eat new dishes, you can immediately switch to a “serious” diet. However, this opinion is implausible, and here it is important to catch the moment when the child has become old enough for such food.

Despite all the benefits of legumes, doctors do not recommend introducing pea soup into the diet before 1.5 years. This is due to the fact that the elements contained in peas create unpleasant gases in the stomach and can provoke colic painful for the baby. The only exception is green peas, which is useful to give the baby in moderation.

At the age of 1.5 - 2 years, the child can be safely and fully fed pea soup, without worrying about the possible negative consequences. At this age, the body is ready to perceive new adult food, process it and get the valuable elements that it contains.

Menu entry rules

Pea soup, like any other complementary foods, must be introduced gradually into the baby’s diet. At first, it is enough to confine yourself to a couple of small spoons together with other nutrition, gradually this dose needs to be increased, and over time the crumbs will be able to satisfy hunger with one soup.

Baby Pea Soup Recipes

Bean dishes, including pea soup, can be varied. The diet of a small child should contain all the necessary vitamins, because such a pea soup for children should be prepared according to a special recipe.

To prepare such a soup, you should follow a few simple rules, and then it will turn out not only useful, but also tasty, which is very important when introducing a new dish in the baby’s menu.

  1. Vegetable broth.  It is recommended to prepare soup for the child on vegetable broth - the beneficial substances contained in vegetables will make pea soup as useful as possible and will have a beneficial effect on the growth and development of the child.
  2. Meat broth.  If desired, pea soup can also be prepared on meat broth - for this you need to boil meat with a small amount of fat, drain the first water and use the broth as a base.
  3. Peas.  A few hours before cooking, peas must be soaked in water - so it is better cooked, and the soup will be more pleasant for the baby to eat.
  4. Consistency.  The child’s first pea soup should resemble mashed potatoes - the stomach will quickly get used to the new dish and take all the necessary substances.

It's important to know:  To prepare pea soup for a child under the age of 3, you need to use fresh or frozen green peas. Dry pea soup is suitable for a child from the age of three years.

To create an exceptionally delicious children's pea soup, you will need:

  • one glass of fresh or frozen green peas;
  • two medium potatoes;
  • 100 g. Lean beef or chicken meat, provided that the child is not allergic. For allergy sufferers this product is excluded;
  • one medium carrot;
  • a small pinch of salt.

The method of cooking pea soup:

  1. If you use dried peas, it must first be soaked in water - this will save the child from the appearance of gas and colic. Fresh peas must be washed, frozen - thaw at room temperature and rinse.
  2. Set the meat and peas to cook for 1.5-2 hours - this will make the soup more thick, rich and pleasant for the perception of the children's stomach.
  3. Add finely chopped carrots, potatoes and onions, add salt to taste and cook until soft.
  4. Cool the soup and treat the baby with a new dish!

What can not be added to the soup

Products that adults regularly eat are harmful to the child's body, because there is a certain list of products that are not allowed to be added to children's pea soup:

  • smoked meats;
  • meat with high fat content;
  • seasonings and cubes of artificial broth.

If pea soup is an integral part of the menu of the whole family, then for a small child it is necessary to cook the soup separately or dilute it with vegetable broth in a proportion of one to one.

It is important to understand that even with the proper preparation of the soup and tolerance of all the ingredients, there is no guarantee that the child will immediately fall in love with pea soup. Therefore, you need to feed your baby with such a soup on an empty stomach - then you can avoid the vagaries, failures and negative perceptions. You also do not need to add pea soup to the menu as a new dish in periods when the child is capricious or dissatisfied - a negative attitude towards the soup and a complete refusal to use it may develop.

The recipe for pea soup came to us from ancient times. It was cooked by the Greeks and Romans. And they knew a lot about the beneficial properties of boiled peas for the human body.

It normalizes the work of the stomach and intestines. Contains a significant amount of vitamins and minerals.

A large amount of vitamin B has a beneficial effect on the functioning of the nervous system.

It would seem that such a wonderful food should suit any person, regardless of age. But, unfortunately, this dish is not suitable for young children.. And all because of the imperfection of their digestive system, which is still being formed and may not be able to cope with legumes.

The result may be bloating, abdominal pain, flatulence. So at what age can pea soup be given to children? How to cook it correctly enter in the menu? Can I add extra ingredients to the soup? All of this will be discussed later.

It is known that peas, like all plants from the legume family, contain a significant amount of fiber, carbohydrates and various oils.

Green peas of milk maturity are suitable for children. They will definitely like them.

During cooking peas, some valuable carbohydrates and oils are destroyed, so the nutritional value of such a dish is reduced.

A significant amount of fiber remains in the cooked dish, which has a significant effect on digestion, causing not only a “musical” effect, but also concomitant bloating and gas formation.

For easier digestibility by the child's body of pea soup, it is better to make mashed potatoes from it.  Naturally, there will be less vitamins in it, but the fragile children's intestines will be easier to cope with.

When to enter the menu

Among pediatricians there is no consensus when a child can pea soup. But we can definitely say that it should not be categorically offered to children under 1 year old, because instead of benefit, it can cause irreparable harm to the digestive system of a one-year-old baby that has not yet been strengthened.

Although many mothers introduce it into their diet as early as 8-9 or 10 months, but it is too early.

By the age of two, the baby’s menu is already quite diverse, except for dairy products, meat, fish, various fruits and vegetables are already present.

An increasing number of enzymes are produced to digest food that can cope with new products. From 2 or 3 years old, you can already offer your child such a soup.

Many products that housewives traditionally add to pea soup should not be eaten by small children. This primarily applies to the following ingredients:

  • smoked meats, especially smoked ribs. These meat products are very fatty and contain a lot of salt. In addition, they will not bring any benefit to the body, which is scientifically proven.
  • lard and fatty meats. These products will only complicate the digestion process, and there is nothing for the child to have excess fat.
  • ready-made stock cubes can also not be used to make baby soup. Not only do they contain a large amount of salt, there are many other harmful substances.
  • ready-made store broths may contain a significant amount of preservatives and spices, which can irritate the walls of the stomach and intestines, leading subsequently to various diseases.

To find out how pediatricians relate to this dish, watch the following video:

Already several millennia have passed since people appreciated the full benefits of peas. This unique culture in China is considered a symbol of wealth and prosperity, and at one time in Germany it was it that was the basis of the diet of warriors. Is pea good for children? At what age can it be offered to babies? What dishes from it can be prepared for the smallest?

Peas - a vegetable that does not need advertising

Pea is a recognized leader in protein content, among vegetables it has no equal. Moreover, it contains a complex of essential amino acids that are of particular value to the body: cystine, tryptophan, lysine and others. By energy value, peas are almost 2 times higher than our favorite potatoes, carrots, beets, cabbage and other crops. It is also famous for containing iron, manganese, zinc, magnesium and other minerals. Pea contains more nickel than other products, it also has a lot of iron, aluminum, potassium and calcium.

The benefits of this product cannot be exaggerated:

  • high protein content is combined with low calorie content - it is often included in diets aimed at getting rid of excess body weight;
  • 100 g of fresh, not heat-treated peas contains the daily norm of folic acid, it increases the digestibility of iron, it is important for the full development of the nervous system;
  • due to phytosterols it helps to get rid of excess cholesterol, beta-sitosterol contributes significantly to this;
  • thanks to antioxidants, carotene, lutein and some other flavonoids that are present in peas, as well as B vitamins (thiamine, niacin and others), this vegetable removes toxins, relieves the body of toxins, increases its resistance to diseases, including viral ones;
  • 100 g of the product contains more than half (67%) of the daily norm of ascorbic acid, which increases resistance to infections, helps to cope with free radicals;
  • positively affects brain neurons - this effect is provided by vitamin K present in peas;
  • it has a mild laxative effect - it is characteristic only of fresh sweet peas;
  • reduces acidity in the stomach when consumed in the form of mashed potatoes;
  • strengthens the cardiovascular system due to the special fiber structure and minimal fat content;
  • improves skin condition thanks to pyridoxine, which provides the assimilation and production of amino acids;
  • reduces the likelihood of malignant neoplasms - this effect is achieved due to selenium, carotene and fibers contained in peas.

At what age can peas be given to children?

  • mature pea protein is absorbed worse;
  • since fiber in green peas is smaller, dishes come out more tender, their taste is softer;
  • contains more vitamins;
  • unlike mature peas, it practically does not cause allergies.

Important! Up to two years, do not give fresh, only boiled or stewed. Then it is better absorbed.

Tips for teaching your baby green peas:

  • the maximum portion for a child under the age of 1 year is 50 g, at the age of 1-2 years - 80 g;
  • optimal frequency of use - up to 3 times a week;
  • up to 2-3 years old, it is best to offer "in company" with other vegetables.

Ripe peas can be included in the baby’s diet no earlier than 2 years old, mainly as part of first courses, vegetable stews or combined mashed potatoes. Only from the age of three begin to prepare mashed potatoes for the baby (the recommended portion is up to 100 g).
