Corner Café & Kitchen is one of several Moscow establishments that I periodically recommend to readers, friends and acquaintances when it comes to high-quality Pan-Asian cuisine. And since you have to answer for recommendations, I visit my chosen ones from time to time. On Thursday evening, it was the turn to take the rap for Kobayashi Katsuhiko's project at the corner of Kompozitorskaya Street and Trubnikovsky Lane.

During my absence, there have been some changes in the layout of the cafe. The entrance has moved to the hall, the dressing room and the dessert counter have disappeared, the arrangement of tables has changed. The semicircular outer wall remains the same. She was still occupied with narrow windows and photographs of her own production. In the far corner, as before, there is a bar counter with high perch stools, only now a glass cabinet with desserts has appeared next to it. In the center, the space was divided by a rack of sake bottles. Rough wood inserts were visible here and there. The floor was glistening with parquet. Instead of a wardrobe with a stick-hanger. The furniture is comfortable. Distances between tables are commendable. The lighting is bright. There are no dark spots in the hall. But the temperature during my visit was not very comfortable. The air conditioner was clearly not working, and there was not enough air from the open windows.

The menu fits on two sides of an A4 sheet. The set is small, delicious, Pan-Asian. The author's look is noticeable both in the combinations of ingredients and in the names. The prices are friendly and do not pose a risk to the budget. Portions are moderate and designed for one adult eater. "Tuna tataki according to the original Kobayashi recipe" (560 rubles) - a beautiful pink tuna composition in which each flavor played its part and did it flawlessly, creating a unique tasty idyll. The fish is tender, juicy and appetizing. The sauce is sweetish, with a ponzu flavor. The spices are balanced.

Grilled Bamboo Root (380 rubles) - exclusively for amateurs. The two almost brown halves had a distinct sweet pickle flavor and a dense texture similar to that of turnips. Unusual but interesting.

“Ban Ban Ji salad” (380 rubles), alas, did not impress, and the reason for this is the fragmentation of taste. Each component told its own story and did not want to listen to others. The vegetables and salad were crisp and crisp, but didn't go well with the strips of dry, cold cooked chicken and the overly thick, spicy sauce.

But "Homemade Japanese dumplings" Gedza "with shrimps" (420 rubles) did not disappoint. The dough is thin, lightly toasted, without cuts, holes or extra folds. The filling is soft, tasty, shrimp. The sauce is sour, vigorous, complementary.

Donburi with tuna and avocado (690 rubles) is a Japanese version of the Rice Bowl, which was treacherously attacked by dry nori shavings in Corner Café & Kitchen. The tuna was good. The avocado was ripe. Rice is moderately soft and warm. There was a combination of sweetness and citrus acid in the sauce. But, unfortunately, all these solid ingredients were dominated by black stripes of dried algae. They mixed very quickly with the sauce, got wet, then stuck to the rice and turned it into big gooey lumps, which killed the whole essence of the dish.

“Cold chili-miso ramen” (520 rubles) is an excellent summer version of Japanese classics. Appetizing view. The taste is multifaceted. The cold broth is rich. Elastic noodles. Bamboo, meat splashes, fresh vegetables, egg and shrimp are of high quality. So no complaints.

Yakiniku Style Grilled Marble Calbi Beef (RUR 840) - a combination of Japanese and Korean cuisines on one plate, which arrived as a handful of very fatty layers of meat on a lettuce leaf. The sauce and marinade came out excellent, but the beef itself, or rather the cuts from the ribs, had too many "rubber" layers that were chewed with difficulty and indecently stretched.

From desserts, I once again delighted the classic from Kobayashi - "Matcha fondant with vanilla ice cream" (320 rubles). The dough is tender. The filling is spreading. The taste is subtle and not at all cloying.

Slightly less bright, but still tasty, was the "Apricot Pie" (280 rubles). Although the orange fruits were sour, they combined with cream and dough to make a delicious, fresh combination.

A calm young man was in charge of the service. He tried to follow the audience and was not particularly distracted by anything, but he did not always have time and not everywhere. It is a pity that other employees did not help him in any way, but went about their personal affairs.

The bottom line is:

Despite some oversights in food and service, Corner Café & Kitchen still offers guests an interesting signature Panazia performed by the talented and respected Kobayashi Katsuhiko. It's a pity, of course, that this institution still falls short of five points, but even at this level it remains on my list of recommendations.
