The cocktail was invented in Italy, in the famous Italian "city of violets" - Florence. This drink appeared thanks to Count Camilio Negroni and the bartender Fosco Scarselli.

The count, having drunk his favorite Americano cocktail, asked the bartender to "fix" it, replacing the soda with gin. The bartender fulfilled the request, at the same time replacing the traditional American decoration of lemon with an orange. Since then, Negroni has been a resounding success. The count's family even founded their own distillery, where they began to produce an original cocktail on an industrial scale. This drink was marketed under the brand name "Antico Negroni 1919" and was the first cocktail to be prepared and sold commercially.

The cocktail was first mentioned in print in 1947, when the Cochocton Tribune published a letter from famous director Orson Welles telling the story. These days, the cocktail is not industrially produced, but it can be found in many establishments where it is served as an aperitif.

The original appearance and ease of preparation are combined in one cocktail called "Negroni", which should be served as an aperitif. The high alcohol level (around 30 degrees) makes the alcohol truly masculine, even though it contains a little sweetness thanks to the vermouth. Rum with juice gives excellent pairing, but Italians are very proud of their national spirits "Negroni", the main component of which is gin.

An aperitif is a stimulant to improve digestion, it sharpens the appetite and is consumed before the start of a meal.

The history of the cocktail

The emergence of the drink occurred at the beginning of the twentieth century, thanks to the Italian Count Camillo Negroni. Immediately after graduating from military school, the aristocrat left for the USA, where he managed to get acquainted with a wonderful drink - gin. However, the "dry law" in 1919 became a hindrance to enjoying your favorite alcohol. Then the Florentine count went back to France.

One day, sitting at the Café Casoni, Camillo asked the bartender to pour some gin into the Americano, but not to dilute the soda. From that moment on, the legendary Negroni cocktail gained fame and celebrity. He was also included in the rating of world cocktails according to the International Bartenders Association.

The famous cocktail can be seen in many films, such as "Roman Holiday", "Rizocco" or in the TV series "The Sopranos".

The history of the Negroni cocktail

The Negroni cocktail appeared in 1919. The name of the drink was "presented" by the famous at that time Camillo Negroni - an aristocrat, a lover of gambling, a military leader and a great connoisseur, in particular. Count Negroni served in the United States, but often visited his homeland, the city of Florence.

Oddly enough, but the creation of the now legendary Negroni contributed to the "Prohibition" - a ban on the production and trade of alcohol in the United States. A drinker, Negroni did not want to deny himself the pleasure of spending the evening with a glass of delicious cocktail, therefore, after the introduction of the ban on alcohol, he often returned to his homeland, to Italy. During one of his visits to Florence, he visited a bar, where he asked to slightly change the alcoholic recipe of the old Italian cocktail Americano. At Negroni's request, the soda was replaced with gin, and the lemon wedge was replaced with orange. Negroni liked the resulting drink so much that later he preferred just such a mix: Martini Rosso red vermouth, dry gin and Campari bitter.

The cocktail pleased not only Negroni himself, but also other visitors of the Florentine bar, therefore it was decided to mix the drink for other guests of the drinking establishment. At first the cocktail was called "Americano with gin", but a little later (in 1948) the drink finally got a new name - "Negroni".

Let's talk about the history of the Negroni cocktail

The cocktail first appeared at the beginning of the twentieth century in France, and this happened thanks to Count Camillo Negroni. This aristocrat was a military man, and his career threw him to the United States, where he tasted delicious and popular gin at that time. But have

Camillo did not have the opportunity to calmly enjoy the taste of his beloved alcoholic drink, since the American government issued a "dry law". The history of a kind of ban on the use of alcoholic beverages began in 1919.

Negroni was not going to put up with this taboo and therefore returned to his homeland, where alcohol could be drunk in any quantity. After some time, Camillo began to frequent the bar, which is now called Caffè Giacosa.

There he ordered his favorite cocktail Americano, which included the following ingredients: Campari, red vermouth and soda. One day, while drinking his favorite drink, Negroni remembered the taste of American gin and asked the bartender to pour it into a cocktail instead of soda.

He fulfilled the client's request by adding a slice of orange to the glass to make the drink different in appearance. This is the story of the birth of a popular drink today.

Almost immediately, the count decided not to miss this opportunity and organized a business, which he called Antico Negroni. Its essence was to sell a ready-made cocktail in bottles. Camillo, on his love of alcohol, was able to make a lot of money and became famous all over the world. This cocktail was first documented in 1947.

How to make a Negroni cocktail?

There are several recipes for this drink that appeared thanks to the experiments of bartenders. Let's consider them in more detail.

Recipe number 1

Let's start with the classic version. The cocktail is served as an aperitif, that is, before meals. A cocktail is prepared using the mixing method - build, which involves combining the ingredients directly in the glass. For serving, you must use an old fashion glass - a low glass and a wide neck.

To prepare a drink, you must use the following ingredients: 30 ml each of gin, Campari and sweet red vermouth.

Cooking steps:

  1. First, fill the glass with ice cubes. Pour in red vermouth, gin and Campari;
  2. Mix the contents of the glass well, moving clockwise around the perimeter. A cocktail spoon is ideal for this purpose. During this, you need to hold the glass, and this is best done with a napkin. Thanks to it, fingerprints and perspiration will not disappear. It is best to hold on to the edge, pressing the glass against the table. Garnish the drink with an orange wedge.

Recipe number 2

This option appeared due to a change in the amount of ingredients, which allows you to get new unusual taste. The cocktail is also served as an aperitif and in a glass of old fengsh. The mixing method differs in this version, since you need to use a stir-shake, which implies preliminary mixing of the components of the drink.

The Negroni cocktail contains such ingredients: 40 ml gin, 25 ml Campari and 30 ml sweet red vermouth.

Cooking steps:

  1. Take a boston and pour all the ingredients into the glass part, and put ice cubes into the metal part;
  2. Spill the contents up and down for 30 seconds. Fill a glass with ice and pour the drink into it through the steiner. For decoration, you can put slices of orange, lemon and cherries.

These are, one might say, the two most common recipes, but not all of them are possible.

Other popular variants of Negroni:

  1. "The Wrong Negroni"- one of the variants of the famous cocktail, which is considered more
    feminine, because it is not so strong and softer. The cooking method is identical to the first option. It includes the following ingredients: 30 ml of Prosecco, Campari sparkling wine and sweet red vermouth;
  2. "East Indian Negroni" another option, which differs in composition, since white rum is used. You need to take the following ingredients: 60 ml of white rum, 20 ml of Campari, 20 ml of Oloroso sherry, 10 g of orange and 260 g of ice cubes;
  3. "Double Negroni"- a drink for real men, as it turns out to be very strong. The composition of the cocktail is the same as in the first recipe, but the amount of gin is doubled, that is, 60 ml;
  4. The Negroni cocktail is white. There are many such options, but the drink invented by the bartender Eric Alperina stands out among them. For it, you need to mix the following ingredients in a glass: 45 g of gin, 20 g of dry vermouth, 20 g of "Suze" liqueur. Everything is decorated with a slice of grapefruit;
  5. "Gourmet Negroni"... To prepare this drink, you should prepare 30 ml of mescal, Pedro Jimenez sherry and vermouth, and you also need chestnut honey. First, grease the sides of the glass with honey, and then pour in the sherry, mezcal and vermouth. All that remains is to add a few ice cubes, stir and decorate with a honey stick.
