What can you do with sparkling water. We carbonate water at home: four ways

23.03.2022 From vegetables

Our grandmothers loved carbonated water, and now not only children, but also adults enjoy it. Today, a huge range of products of this type is presented on the shelves of stores. But it is not always possible to buy carbonated water, which would be both healthy and tasty at the same time. But you really want to quench your thirst in the summer heat with a cool soda. This does not mean that you need to completely abandon the yummy so beloved by everyone. You can also make soda at home. It's about how easy and inexpensive to prepare your favorite drink.

Theory

In fact, making soda at home is not difficult at all. It is enough just to study a few recipes, which are based on carbon dioxide CO2. This component does not burn, does not smell, it has no color, and on top of that, it has the greatest weight than the same oxygen. Moreover, CO2 dissolves quite quickly in the liquid and makes the drink slightly acidic.

It was on this principle that soda was made in the former USSR. Remember vending machines with drinks that could be found in those days on almost every street? Inside these machines, under pressure, CO2 gas was supplied to a tank with already sweet water, which, as mentioned above, was completely dissolved in it.

In order to make soda at home, you can use special cylinders or siphons. As for the latter, such equipment is available in any household store. By means of siphons, the necessary gas, in portions, enters the existing drink.

If you can’t buy a bottle or siphon to make soda, you can start producing carbon dioxide using improvised means. These include baking soda and vinegar. If you mix these two ingredients, then as a result a chemical reaction will begin, during which carbon dioxide is released. In order for the experiment to succeed, all the products used must be mixed in the following proportions: 1 liter of water + 7 tbsp. vinegar 9% + 2 tsp table soda. In addition to all of the above, you first need to prepare the following inventory:

  • Polyvinyl chloride tube, the length of which reaches 1 m;
  • Two plastic bottles (better if they are dark);
  • Two lids. First, holes must be made in the plugs. Holes in their diameter should be less than the diameter of the tube.

Making sparkling water

So what is the right way to make soda?

  • Take pre-prepared bottles. Fill one of them with water, and put acetic acid and soda in the second. Do not forget that the chemical reaction should not start immediately. It is for this reason that soda must be wrapped in a napkin and poured with vinegar. This way you won't be late with the corking of the bottle. Everything will be done until the moment when carbon dioxide begins to be released. Therefore, you will not lose a single part of this substance;
  • It is also worth saying that the tube must be securely attached to the lid. This is necessary to prevent CO2 leakage;
    Instead of a paper napkin, you can use, for example, polyethylene or foil. Make holes in them so that the chemical reaction does not drag on for a long time;
  • As soon as carbon dioxide begins to be released, it is necessary to shake the bottle well. The duration of shaking is at least 5 minutes. So, you can make the components interact as much as possible.

All of the above steps will allow you to make a lightly carbonated drink that can be varied by adding syrup or juice.

Classics of the genre - "Soda"

In order to make classic sparkling water at home, you do not need any special knowledge or unusual ingredients. So the first thing you need is water. It is best to pre-clean the liquid with a household filter.

At the beginning of the 19th century, in order to reduce the cost of producing carbonated water, chemistry began to be used in the manufacturing process. Soda was added to the water, which was previously mixed with acid. Sometimes one of the components of soda was also salt. Thus, the water received its portion of carbon dioxide and became carbonated. This cooking option is also suitable for home conditions.

The resulting drink will include sodium bicarbonate and acid residues. This means that such soda can hardly be called useful. You also need to understand that in the cooking process it is necessary to strictly follow the indicated proportions. Otherwise, you will get not only harmful, but also tasteless drink. Despite all the above, production costs are minimal.

How to make soda with a siphon?

Water is initially poured into the siphon, after which a balloon with food carbon dioxide is twisted. It is enough to wait a couple of seconds and you can enjoy the taste of an unsurpassed drink.

It is worth saying that the spill of sparkling water is very convenient. With one push of the lever, you can fill your glass with cool sparkling water. Moreover, you can store the drink under normal conditions and at the same time it will not lose its original quality.

If you use spring water as an ingredient, then in the end you will get a drink that will be similar in composition to natural mineral water. It will contain minerals and carbon dioxide bubbles that are extremely beneficial for the human body, which tend to refresh.

As for the financial side, this manufacturing method will allow you not only to enjoy the excellent taste of sparkling water, but also save money. 1 liter costs only 20 rubles. Compared to prices in shops and cafes, this cost is very small.

It is most convenient to prepare soda at home using a siphon. So this device is enough to purchase only once. The purchase will cost you approximately 1500 rubles.

So, as you could see, making soda at home is not so difficult. You can use improvised means or prepare and purchase a special siphon. In any case, by making carbonated water at home, you are guaranteed to get a drink that will be much healthier than the water sold in stores.

Pretty easy way to get soda at home. Based on the simple dissolution of CO2 in water. To do this, we will build a CO2 generator. Its work is as follows: when vinegar interacts with soda, CO2 is released, then it passes into the second vessel and there it dissolves in our carbonated liquid. Just isn't it?

We will need: vinegar, soda, a couple of plastic bottles, a tube, a piece of napkin or toilet paper.

Here is what we did:

As can be seen from the figure, two bottles are securely connected by a tube. Please note that in the second bottle where our carbonated liquid will be poured, the tube goes to the very bottom, and in the first bottle where the reaction will take place, the tube peeks out a little from under the cap.

We pour 100-150 ml into the first bottle. vinegar, in our second liquid, which we will carbonate. Close the second bottle tightly.

Then we turn in our toilet paper st. a spoonful of baking soda. This is done in order to pour soda at once and not lose CO2.

We throw and quickly close.

The reaction begins! For better absorption of CO2 liquid, it must be shaken, and also, to increase the reaction, shake a bottle of soda and vinegar. In short, it is better to shake both bottles alternately.

After a while, the reaction will end and you will get a soda made by yourself!

The first appearance of carbonated water dates back to the middle of the 19th century. Otherwise, it is called soda. Even then, consumers liked it with its unusual bubbles, pinching the tongue and so refreshing in the summer heat. And since then, soda has been a regular product on store shelves. There is nothing easier than buying a bottle of sparkling water, but not many people know that it is possible to make a prickly liquid at home.

How to make soda at home?

It's actually very simple! We take a glass of mineral water, add a teaspoon of soda to it, extinguish it with a couple of tablespoons of lemon juice or citric acid (0.5 teaspoon). Mix and you're done! And if you add a few circles of lemon and sugar - you get lemonade. With the addition of syrup or jam - a sweet drink.

Consider what other ways to get sparkling water at home:

Instead of water, you can use juice or fruit drink.
  • Another way. We need two containers. Pour water into one and twist tightly. We make a hole in the lid and insert the tube into it so as to ensure tightness. Pour apple cider vinegar into the second container, at the rate of 100 ml per liter of the finished drink. Add two tablespoons of soda, close and insert the tube from the first container. Vinegar reacts with baking soda and releases carbon dioxide, which gasses the water.
  • The easiest way is to use a siphon and a can of carbon dioxide. You need to fill the siphon with water, connect the spray can and the prickly drink is ready!
  • Preparation of a drink by fermentation. We need 4 liters of cold water, 200 ml of warm water, yeast (5 g), a glass of sugar. You can add mint or tarragon herb. Yeast is dissolved in warm water, poured into cold. Add sugar and herbs to taste, pour into containers and leave in a dark, cool place for 5 days. Then the drink is ready.
