    Cut each onion in half, then into 3 more pieces, and then chop thinly. Saute until golden brown over medium heat in plenty of vegetable oil, stirring occasionally to prevent the onion from burning. Transfer to a bowl with the remaining vegetables.

    Cut the crust off the bread and cut each slice into 1x1 cm cubes. Stirring constantly, dry the bread in a dry frying pan. Remove to a plate and cool.

    Rinse the pickled cucumbers, dry them and cut into thin slices. Add to bowl with cooled vegetables. Gently stir the salad with a fork so as not to crush the beans.

    Place a serving of bean salad on a plate decorated with lettuce leaves, add salt and pour mayonnaise.

    If you prefer the croutons to remain crunchy, add them to the salad just before serving (at a rate of 1.5 tablespoons per serving).
