Wheat porridge can be called universal. It will turn out delicious both sweet and savory, with meat or other products. In addition, it can be cooked in both milk and water. The first option turns out to be tender and more nutritious, but it all depends on individual tastes and culinary preferences. The cooking recipe is quite simple and we will talk together about how to cook wheat porridge with milk in a slow cooker.

Beneficial properties of wheat porridge

The most authentic Russian dish is not just tasty, but also incredibly healthy. Unfortunately, cereals are gradually disappearing from the daily diet of a modern person, and this is what nutritionists recommend starting every new day with.

Wheat groats come in different varieties - large, medium or small. The most well-known porridge “Artek” is crushed grains, cleared of germs and shells. According to experts, the benefits of the finished dish depend on the grinding. Although it has not been proven that large-sized grains contain more useful components.

Wheat cereal contains monosaccharides and polysaccharides, a lot of protein, starch, fiber and healthy carbohydrates. It contains vitamins A, B, C, E, F, B6, B12, PP, as well as phosphorus, iodine, magnesium, silicon, molybdenum, potassium and calcium. Ready-made wheat porridge is about 200 calories per 100 grams of product (milk-based).

The beneficial properties of the dish are expressed in its ability to normalize metabolic processes, remove toxins and salts of heavy metals. Boiled wheat grain helps normalize cholesterol levels and helps lower blood pressure. Regular consumption of this porridge will strengthen blood vessels and capillaries, and also normalize nails, hair and skin.

Wheat dishes are irreplaceable for those who suffer from digestive disorders, stomach disorders, and intestinal diseases. Grains are especially useful if they are boiled in milk.

Cooking wheat porridge in a slow cooker - be sure to cook it!

This delicious dish is perfect for a healthy start to the day - breakfast. Surely many people have been familiar with the taste of such porridge since childhood, when mothers and grandmothers prepared it, trying to feed us tasty and healthy foods.

Wheat porridge is the optimal breakfast for both adults and children. To prepare it, you will need a few ingredients:

0.5 liters of milk;
- 100 grams of wheat cereal;
- 25 grams of butter;
- 3 tablespoons of sugar;
- 0.5 teaspoon of salt.

Modern kitchen appliances - a multicooker - allow you to quickly cope with the task. Rinse the grain in cold running water and pour into a cooking bowl. Add milk and all other ingredients to the cereal, except butter, which should be added last at the end of cooking.

Multicookers have a “milk porridge” mode or some other similar mode. You need to use it by setting the timer for 45 minutes. As soon as the porridge is cooked, a corresponding signal will sound, after which you need to turn off the device and add butter to the bowl with the finished cereal. After 10 minutes, you can place the porridge on plates, adding sugar or honey, raisins or dried apricots to taste. Wheat porridge goes well with hot tea or warm milk.

Dried fruits can be added directly to the bowl at the end of cooking the porridge. Then they will steam a little and soften.

Eating this dish is allowed even when losing weight. Nutritionists prescribe whole courses based on wheat porridge for those who are trying to fight excess weight. It is recommended to introduce apples and fermented milk products into the diet. It is very nutritious, saturates the body with vivacity, energy and is characterized by a fairly high glycemic index. This should be taken into account if you have diabetes, as blood sugar levels may increase.

In addition, pregnant women should be careful when composing their diet: a large amount of fiber activates the functioning of the intestines, which leads to increased tone of the uterus. And when breastfeeding, such a product can cause colic in a newborn, so the mother is advised to give up porridge in the first 4-5 months after birth.

In the modern kitchen there are many devices that can turn an ordinary everyday dish into a culinary masterpiece. Classic porridges become a royal breakfast, and all thanks to the help of a multicooker. This device not only makes dishes taste special, but also preserves the beneficial substances of each product. The cooking process itself has become simple, fast and very interesting, especially for children.

How to choose and prepare cereals?

Spring wheat is considered the most beneficial for the human body. It contains a complete list of useful vitamins and minerals. Unfortunately, this product cannot always be found in stores, especially with the onset of autumn. During this period, the ripe harvest is just beginning to be harvested, and the wheat from the previous harvest has already lost its beneficial qualities.

When choosing wheat cereal, you should pay attention to the date of production and packaging of the product. In rare cases, producers may offer old crop wheat for sale. But, as mentioned earlier, it will lack beneficial substances.

The shelf life of the packaged product should not be more than 13-14 months. For wheat, the optimal storage time should not be more than 8 months. An important aspect when choosing wheat is the flowability of the cereal. It should not stick together in your hands and turn into lumps.

Today, popular types of wheat porridge are “Artek” and “Poltavskaya”. The ground product is marked with numbers from 1 to 4, in accordance with the grind size. The larger the grain of wheat, the lower the marking number. In addition to cereals, instant wheat flakes are found on store shelves.

It is not necessary to thoroughly know the characteristics of wheat; it is important to remember that the maximum of useful substances is located in the crushed grain. And wheat flakes are a useless product.

Having chosen the cereal, you need to do its preliminary preparation. For example, “Poltava” wheat must be washed under running water before cooking. In this case, fine crushed particles can be ignored. But many housewives wash any type of wheat, claiming that this factor has a positive effect on the quality of the porridge.

Proportions and cooking time

Each household appliance manufacturing company develops and programs distinctive characteristics for a particular appliance. The same goes for multicookers. Almost every multicooker has a “Porridge” cooking mode, only in the program of each model the cooking time differs, depending on the heating power of the multicooker system. On average, the “Porridge” mode is set for 15 minutes; if necessary, you can reduce the time or, conversely, increase it.

When it comes to proportions, you should use a multicooker measuring cup. The ratio of wheat cereal and milk is 1:2 for the classic cooking method. To obtain a jelly-like consistency, you should use the formula 1: 6. For crumbly porridge, the ideal ratio is 1: 3.

Recipes

Not every person knows that in Rus' wheat porridge was one of the important treats at any event. It was with this dish that the celebration began. All the guests wanted to enjoy the wheat porridge, and those who did not get it did not despair. The morning after the holiday, they boiled a fresh bowl of wheat and recalled with pleasure the previous evening.

First, you should consider the classic recipe for wheat milk porridge prepared in a slow cooker. The proportions in the recipe are presented for porridge with medium thickness. To change it, just pour a little more or less dairy product.

Required:

  • milk – 0.9 ml;
  • wheat – 1 cup;
  • granulated sugar – 1 tbsp. l.;
  • butter – 50 g;
  • salt – 1 pinch.

The cooking process is as follows.

  • Wheat cereals must be washed under running water. According to the standard of the classic recipe, the grains need to be soaked in water for a few minutes, but in fact, you only need to rinse them from dusty deposits.
  • The washed wheat is placed in the multicooker container. Next, add milk, granulated sugar, a pinch of salt and half the prepared amount of butter.
  • The lid closes and the “Porridge” program is selected on the control panel. The automatically set timer should be changed and set to 60 minutes.
  • After the multicooker has notified that the dish is ready, do not immediately open the lid. You need to let the dish brew. It would be even better to connect the “Heating” mode with a timer for 20 minutes. During this time, the porridge will reach its final readiness, and it can be served by adding the remaining half of the butter.

Unfortunately, not every adult likes to eat wheat porridge with milk in the classic version of the recipe, so housewives figured out how to add variety and give the dish a more piquant taste with honey and nuts.

You need to take:

  • wheat – 1 cup;
  • milk – 2 glasses;
  • water – 2 glasses;
  • salt – 1 pinch;
  • butter – 1 tsp;
  • honey - to taste;
  • any nuts - at the discretion of taste.

Method for preparing wheat porridge in milk with healthy ingredients in a slow cooker:

  • The multicooker container must be coated with a small layer of oil;
  • the wheat needs to be rinsed with running water, then placed in the prepared bowl and immediately salted;
  • wheat grains are poured with milk and water in equal quantities and mixed thoroughly;
  • on the multicooker panel you need to select the “Porridge” program, the timer is set for half an hour;
  • While the cereal is cooking, you need to deal with the nuts: peel and chop them;
  • After the multicooker finishes working, add a handful of nuts and honey to the porridge.

The pickiest people when it comes to food are children. Each child has their own list of what they like to consume and what they refuse. And as always, the least favorite foods are the healthiest for a child’s body. Therefore, many mothers use a trick and turn ordinary wheat milk porridge into a special dish.

Required ingredients:

  • wheat – 1 cup;
  • milk – 1.5 cups;
  • salt – 1 tsp;
  • granulated sugar – 1 tsp;
  • crushed crackers (preferably homemade) - 3 tbsp. l.;
  • butter – 50 g;
  • vegetable oil – 30 ml;
  • candied fruits – 30 g;
  • raisins – 30 g.

A special wheat porridge with milk is prepared in a slow cooker as follows.

  • The wheat is washed in running water and poured into the multicooker container.
  • Next, milk, salt, granulated sugar and butter are added. After adding these products, you need to turn on the multicooker and set the “Grain” mode, set the timer for half an hour. It is worth noting that the consistency with the presented amount of products turns out to be thick, so it is necessary to stir the cooked mass frequently so that it does not stick to the walls and bottom.
  • After finishing the multicooker program, you need to wait a little time until the cooked mixture cools down.
  • Next, the meatballs are made. Take a small lump of cooked porridge, put raisins and candied fruits in the middle, and roll the surface in breadcrumbs. The shape of each bit should be slightly flattened.
  • The multicooker bowl is washed after preparing the porridge and lubricated with vegetable oil. After which the prepared meatballs are laid out in it. The “Frying” program is selected and the time is set to 10 minutes.

The lid of the multicooker must not be opened.

After the time is up, you need to turn the fried “cutlets” over to the other side and start the ten-minute frying process again.

This unusual porridge, cooked with milk, is served hot. You can eat the meatballs with sour cream. The main thing is that all the important microelements of wheat are transferred to the baby in full.

The peculiarity of a multicooker lies in the cooking process. According to the principle of operation, it does not boil the porridge, but simmers it. Everything happens due to steam, which affects the products from all sides. It is this fact that insures multicooker owners against burning.

The main thing in the cooking process is to use the advice of famous chefs.

  • When purchasing wheat in a store, your preference should be given to cereals in sealed packaging, preferably in cellophane. A strong wrapper protects the cereal from the adverse effects of the environment. An ordinary cardboard box is not able to protect the product, as a result of which the wheat can become bitter.
  • In addition, when choosing, you should pay attention to the color of the product. High-quality cereals have a light brown tint. A darker color indicates poor quality wheat. When studying the color of the product, it is necessary to check the presence of small debris in the form of pebbles and cake in the packaging. Good cereal will not contain such debris.
  • Common types of wheat – Artek and Poltavskaya – are quite often found on store shelves. Small grains of Artek are ideal for baby porridge. It easily fits into a child’s diet, is easily accepted by the child’s body and enriches it with useful substances. "Poltavskaya" is sold in the form of whole grains of medium and large sizes. The medium size is suitable for an adult’s porridge, and large grains can be used to prepare a dressing for soup.

  • The quality of the prepared porridge is fully influenced by the multicooker itself and the program included in it. In some cases, you can deviate from the existing recipe and do some improvisation, adding, for example, not three glasses of milk, but two and a half.
  • To obtain a richer and more refined taste of wheat porridge, you can substitute the ingredient. Replace some of the required amount of milk with cream.
  • To prepare high-quality porridge, you should use homemade cow's milk. It contains no harmful substances or chemical additives.

  • To make wheat porridge with milk special, you can add variety to the recipe and add additional ingredients, such as honey, pumpkin or raisins. This small contribution to the dish will allow you to experience the taste familiar from childhood.
  • Introducing wheat porridge into the diet of children should be done with extreme caution. This is especially true for the first feeding. Many features of wheat cereal can negatively affect the baby’s digestive system.

  1. Wheat groats can be finely crushed, for example, “Artek”, or whole. Crushed cereal produces a porridge that is homogeneous in consistency, more like a puree. Crumbly can be prepared from whole.
  2. You won’t get a tasty porridge if you don’t prepare the cereal properly for cooking. Wash the wheat thoroughly, as even just a little mulch will make the dish sticky and ruin its taste.
  3. You can reduce the number of calories if you cook the porridge with water rather than milk. Instead of butter, use olive oil.
  4. The taste of milk wheat porridge will improve significantly if you add steamed raisins, dried apricots, prunes, finely grated orange zest, nuts - walnuts, cashews, hazelnuts, almonds or pumpkin.
  5. Wheat porridge is great as a side dish for meat or fish. It will turn out to be an independent dish if you cook wheat together with fish, meat, mushrooms with the addition of seasonings and herbs.
  6. Many multicookers have a “Delayed Start” program, which allows you to delay the start of cooking by several hours. Using this function, you will receive a ready-made dish for breakfast, adding all the ingredients the night before. Load all the products specified in the recipe into the bowl, set the “Porridge” or “Milk porridge” mode. After this, use the timer to select after how many hours the multicooker should start cooking.

To create real masterpieces from wheat cereal, any cook needs to know the following basic rules:

  1. Avoid instant cereals (such cereals are so processed that they have virtually no beneficial properties).
  2. Give preference to packaged cereals, because bulk porridge, if stored incorrectly, could absorb excess moisture and the aromas of the bag in which it was stored.
