The salad will need either one large apple or two small ones. Peel the apples, remove the core and cut into small cubes. Transfer the pieces to a cup of prepared water so that they do not darken, and when they need to be laid out, strain and pat dry with a napkin. If the pickled ingredients are not wiped with a napkin, then the liquid will drain down over time - this is not very good. Peel the beets and grate on a coarse grater. Peel the carrots and grate on a coarse grater as well. For this salad, you will need one large or two small salted herring. Peel the herring from the skin, separate from the bones. Cut the fillet into small pieces with a knife. Separate boiled eggs into whites and yolks. Grate the whites on a coarse grater, and the yolks on a fine one - they will serve as a decoration for the salad. Decide in advance how you will serve the salad. Of course, it is much more convenient to lay the salad in layers in a salad bowl, sprinkle with yolks and decorate with fresh herbs.
