Sometimes you want to cook and eat something tasty, sweet, or, say, come up with some unusual, beautiful dessert for a party or romantic dinner.
One of the interesting dessert options is banana split (bananasplit, English) - this is a typical traditional North American ice cream dessert, one of the types of sande.
By the way, the sande dessert (and the name itself), which several North American states claim to be the inventor of, still comes from Illinois, where at one time there was a strange law prohibiting eating ice cream in its pure form on Sundays.
The original banana split recipe came from the mind of the crafty David Strickler, a 23-year-old pharmacist's apprentice, in 1904. The implementation of the wonderful idea of a banana split made it possible to circumvent the law by selling a dessert with ice cream (which was no longer considered, in fact, ice cream).
We'll tell you how to make a banana split.
Typically (that is, often), a banana split is prepared in a certain way, namely, it is built with scoops of ice cream and other goodies in the shape of a boat on a bed of cut banana.
Preparation
Peel and cut the banana lengthwise into two halves. We place them on an oblong plate-boat so that they touch from below, these will be like the sides of a boat. Place different balls on top of the banana halves (as if in a boat): vanilla, strawberry and chocolate. Top it all with strawberry and pineapple syrups, as well as chocolate sauce. Next, we finish everything off - sprinkle with chopped nuts, decorate with whipped cream and cocktail maraschino cherries.

Price for banana split was twice as expensive as regular ice cream, but the dish was so loved by the students of the nearby college that they happily ordered it all the time and paid ten cents without any indignation.
However, real recognition came to this dish only in the twenties of the twentieth century. Today, a club for lovers of such food has even been created, which includes admirers banana split from all over the world. And at the end of April 1988, residents of the Pennsylvania city of Selingsgrove laid out a split that was four and a half miles long, that is, more than seven kilometers.
The culinary term “banana split” is derived from the English phrase “banana split”, where the word “banana” means “banana”, and “split” is the name of the process of cutting a banana lengthwise into two halves so that after that they barely stick each other.
Almost every American prepares the dessert dish that this article is devoted to in his own way, but the basis remains the same. Therefore, if you want to cook a classic banana split , then you will need:
The maraschino cherry, maraschino cherry or marasca cherry is a type of sweet cherry that has long grown along the Croatian coast and also around Zadar in Dalmatia.
Now it is also cultivated in Upper Italy and Slovenia. This type of cherry is characterized by a slightly tart taste and smaller fruit sizes. These berries are used not only for making cocktail cherries, but also for the production of alcoholic beverages.

The classic American dessert “Banana Split” sande is prepared with ice cream. There are several varieties of dessert: Michigan, New Orleans, “Snowy Island”. The only difference in these recipes is in the form of syrups and nuts for sprinkling, but bananas and ice cream always remain in the recipe. The dessert looks just great: a banana cut lengthwise on a boat plate, scoops of ice cream, syrups, nuts and chocolate sprinkles with a cocktail cherry on top. Most often served in the summer, it cannot be stored and is ready to eat immediately.
Actually, the name “Banana Split” is translated from English as “banana in half.” David Strickler, a street soda fountain seller in Pennsylvania, decided in 1904 to sell not just ice cream, but in combination with banana and syrups, and set the price at twice the standard portion of the cold treat. The idea was an incredible success; the recipe was adopted by thousands of American housewives. Since the 30s of the last century, the dessert has been known not only in the USA, but also far beyond its borders. In 1929, it was sold in 397 retail outlets, using the author’s original recipe for preparation. Cooking time – 5 minutes. Refers to chilled desserts and cannot be stored.
Additionally, the “Banana Split” dessert can be flavored with grated dark chocolate, coconut flakes (this is a variant of the “Snow Island” recipe), and cocktail cherries. At home, syrup can be replaced with liquid jam, and cocktail cherries can be replaced with fresh or canned ones. Any nuts are suitable for this dessert - walnuts, cashews, peanuts or hazelnuts.
In the original recipe, the “Banana Split” was decorated on both ends of the banana “boat” with round wafers with milk filling, a maraschino cherry (cocktail, tart) was placed on top of each creamy peak, fresh strawberries were added in addition to pineapple, and the product was decorated with grated chocolate on top.
